Cake made although I keep forgetting to feed it. DH helpfully drank the feeding sherry although he has bought more!

When are you icing and how are you decorating your cake?

I have red and green icing. Gold stars and also silver and gold star sprinkles. No idea what to do yet.

Maripzanned at the weekend, going to ice today royal icing...with DD and DH later.

I have got those little figgures in cocktail sticks, so like Meri Meri....I wanted nutcracker but didnt buy, got twelve days of xmas theme, with green glitter stars and lots of snow like sprinkles + glitter!!!

This is my first year of making one, so super excited...

I'm going to marzipan it today or tomorrow then ice at weekend. I'm going to make royal icing with egg whites glycerine

I marzipanned mine last week and I'm going to ice them today. Not sure how I'm going to decorate yet though, going to have a look on Pinterest for ideas. They're square (one large and 4 smaller ones), so maybe iced to look like presents?

Then im going to try and flat ice it altho it's usually a bit lumpy..then put model snowman and Christmas tree on..then some sparkly sugar on top

I'm going to marzipan mine tonight and ice them tomorrow night - I don't have time to leave it longer than that, I've to give the PILs theirs on sunday and I want the icing well set before it goes in the car!

I am using fondant icing ontop of the marzipan, could I ice them tomorrow?

Does marzipan need left to dry before icing?

GoldFrankincenseAndTwiglets · 17/12/2013 18:30

Marzipan needs to dry out before icing it or the colour may bleed through onto the icing. Ideally a couple of days but I've left it overnight (not wrapped up) and iced the next day and it was ok. Royal icing will be fine from now until the day - fondant icing probably ok but I'd ideally do that up to about 5 days before.

Thanks! I will do the marzipan tomorrow then, and finish with the fondant on fri or sat.
