anyone else have dh working xmas day?

No, just surprised there are trains on Christmas day. Are you not in the UK?

spare a thought for those of us who are working xmas day - we are probably much much more pissed off about it than our partners are.

christmas is no longer special for us - its just another working day for me as an emergency services worker.

I'm working Christmas Day too, have done most Christmases for years!

DH doesn't care, he's very laid back thankfully. I work nights and I felt awful the year I got rostered for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day nights as there is only me, him and the dses at Christmas and I just sloped off to bed on and off all day. He didn't seem to mind though, just had a laid back, chilled out day. The dses have grown up with me working and to them it's just normal!

Because I work we have adapted our Christmases to suit. We visit family before Christmas and always spend the day at home.

My DH is a nurse in A and E. He is working nights Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It's our DDs first Christmas.

At least he'll be off next year.

yep, my dh works for an oil terminal and he'll be working christmas eve, day and boxing day night. Not happy but what can you do. Me and the kids are going to my parents' and then going away for a week when his shift ends - taking his with us of course lol

Being pissed off won't get you anywhere OP, it's only one day of the year after all. Until very recently I worked in the licenced trade and have worked every Christmas Eve, Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and Day.
It's shit at times but you make the best of it.
How old are your kids? I'm assuming they wouldn't take much encouragement to be up at the crack of dawn? If so get up really early and do stockings as a special breakfast before DH leaves. Open a couple of presents that will be likely to occupy your DCs for a long time if you can.
Spend the day preparing the dinner, playing with toys, walk in the park etc. Have dinner ready for the minute DH walks in the door. Have all the trimmings, crackers etc and have a good time. If your DCs are up late then who cares? More presents either before or after dinner then curl up on the sofa together to watch TV.
Failing that have "Christmas" on another day

I'm not working this Christmas but according to my rota I will be working Christmas day for the next seven years.
This year I will be dropping off chocolate/cake to my local police station/ambulance station and A&E on Christmas morning as I'm so grateful to have this year off, particularly as it's probably the last year we'll all be together for a while. Next year DD will be nursing so probably working and the DS's will be scattered. This year is going to be special.

Mine is - just for the morning but it's our first Christmas as a married couple and I was very much hoping he'd get the day off :(. Am going to make up for it with a lie-in and a good book, though!

DH working night shift Christmas night & Boxing Day night. Actually prefer this to day shift (both are 7 till 7) as at least he can open presents & have lunch.

My sister and her other half are doctors and working Christmas Eve/over New Year so we're having 'Fakemas' this weekend instead. None of us is bothered when we have Christmas as long as we get to have a family gathering at some point!

NCIS that's a great idea (to drop off sweets/cake) my DCs would love to do that - can we just rock up with stuff? I don't know anyone working in our local firestation/hospital/policestation, would that matter?

My husband always has to work at least part. But this year he will be finished, bar any emergencies, at lunchtime. So it could be a whole lot worse.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm in Australia, so the trains do run at Christmas. We plan to get up early and do pressents then just chill out for the day. Christmas dinner at night when dh gets home.

Scripsi, I don't know anyone at ours either as I work for a different trust. Going to do shop bought rather than homemade just in case they worry that I've spiked the brownies!

Yes will do the same (am thinking tins of sweets). DCs will probably make them Christmas cards (as that seems to be the theme of the week, looking at my glitter covered sofa).
