Real tree in wooden stand with no water...will it last?

Dh bought our tree today. Normally we put it in a tree stand thing and water it but this one has a wooden stump thing that the tree is slotted into and dh wants to leave it lie that as it stands up straight and will be a real hassle to remove and then out in the tree stand. I like the way it looks but and worried about not giving it water. Will it be ok?

It'll drop it's needles sooner. Could you line it with a thick plastic bag so it can have some water?

I've forgotten to water ours loads and it's always been OK. Dies sooner than it would have, but as long as it's still there on Christmas day I don't mind.

The whole in the stump doesn't go all the way through. The only way to water it would be to remove it from the stump which dh is dead set against,

Ours hasn't got a hole in it at all.
How about putting some water in it and putting it on a metal/plastic tray?

But there is nowhere to out water in it! It is like a slice of a tree trunk with a whole in the top. The trunk of the Christmas tree fit very tightly into that whole (I think dh had to jammer it!).

If you've got a tree stand the best thing to do is knock the wooden stand off it and use the tree stand with water on it. My DH uses a hammer to do this. It is a bit of a hassle but the tree definitely lasts longer / drops less needles.

I've never watered my tree before and it's usually been fine until about NYE. We only put it up about now though, not early December. So, I think you'll be ok
