So how many presents will you get

Having wrapped up all my presents to give in the next week or so I came to think about how many gifts I'll have piled up under the tree as a single and child free nanny.

Work - 3 under the Christmas tree for me plus child I look after bought me something at the school fete

Close friends - 7 close friends of mine are buying and swapping presents [Only 2 of these friends have children]

"Work xmas do" - already opened secret santa gift.

Family - 7 family members will also buy presents for me [Mum will go mad Hmm Grin ]

19 presents [that's if everyone just buys 1 - see above!] seems a lot for little old me - so how many presents under the tree will be for you this Christmas? Or do adults not do presents?

OH and I do stockings for each other, so I will probably have 10, but will be small things like chocolate, a scarf, slippers.

I will get something from Mum, possibly my aunt and then the inlaws. Me and my sister agreed a few years ago not to get each other anything.

MoreThanChristmasCrackers · 14/12/2013 15:13

I'll get presents from 3dc and from dh, that's it really. We decided this year with ils not to do presents as the exchange of vouchers was getting silly.

SantaStuffedMyStocking · 14/12/2013 15:22

I have 35 from dh, dds and my dps and ils.

still a few more to pick up fron relatives so probably anothe 6/7.

I am very lucky Smile

purplebaubles · 14/12/2013 15:29
  1. All from my mum. We don't have enough money to swap presents this year, myself and DH I mean.
SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 14/12/2013 15:30

I will get 3/4 from mum and then she will buy me one from my son as the ex never does.

So 4/5. I know what mums got me it includes hoover a coat and storage tins.

30SecondsToVenus · 14/12/2013 15:37

Absolutely nothing. It's the same every year and as much as it upsets me, I suppose I'm too old for gifts now (25).

Dp has never bought me anything in our 4 years together although I do buy for him every Xmas birthday and valentines. I haven't this year though.

My parents won't bother because theychaven't got much money and my extended family don't really speak to me since I moved away from our home town.

I'll be having a lovely lunch with dd1 and dd2 this year and I'm sure it will be great fun Smile

I just have to figure out how to buy Christmas presents for 2 children with £80 Blush

SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 14/12/2013 15:39

30 Have you a The Entertainer near you? They have been having a great sale. I don't have a lot to spend on my son but that place helped. Its a toy store

30SecondsToVenus · 14/12/2013 15:41

I've never heard of the entertainer but I will Google it and see if there is any in Edinburgh.

Thank you

Philoslothy · 14/12/2013 15:42

Nothing, unless the children get me something.

Rufustherednosedreindeer · 14/12/2013 15:46

Work secret Santa is already open (an owl that you heat in the microwave, very cute), sometimes get a chocolate bar from superviser
Husband - we don't do presents
Children - a book (I'm not supposed to know that)
In laws - £10 max so will get one or two presents from MIL and the same from BIL
Dad - same as above
Brother - a box of chocs and a bottle of wine
Friend - has bought me a present even though she is not supposed to, bad friend, bad bad friend

2kidsintow · 14/12/2013 15:46

My 2 dds will get me a gift, DH will get me about 5 or so, Mum and Dad give me a gift or two and my MIL goes bonkers at Christmas and I'll get about 10 or more from her. Plus a gift from each of my 2 sisters.

Something small from my mum, something from my dad and something from the kids, dh and I don't re3ally do presents, we just go shopping and we both chose something we want/need. I'm not too bothered what I get, I just enjoy watching the kids open theirs (and when they have gone to bed I can build their lego and arrange their playmobil).

ThePortlyPinUp · 14/12/2013 15:55

1-A dress from my dad, I told everyone not to buy for us adults this year as we can't reciprocate, it's the first year me and Dp haven't exchanged gifts and I feel a bit sad but our dd's have some lovely gifts and we haven't gone into debt to pay for it so it'll be worth it. Dp has promised me a gift in the new year when we have a few spare pennies.

Two or three small ones. More than enough for me.

XmasLogAndHollyOn · 14/12/2013 16:10

2 - one from my parents and one from my DH (which I bought myself, in case you're interested.)

C'est la vie!

lljkk · 14/12/2013 16:26

2-4. 2 from DH relatives, maybe 1-2 from DH & kids.

CMOTDibbler · 14/12/2013 16:28

2 from DH, 1 from PIL, poss 1 from SIL/BIL.

Heifer · 14/12/2013 16:31

3 from my best friend
1 from DD (money donated by me) Grin
1 from DH which I bought (book) as he wouldn't have got me anything (redundancy looming).

Unfortunately my parents are no longer with us and my Mum used to buy me lots of small presents along with 1 larger item). My best friend knows this and she has taken up the reigns (best friend ever).

Brother stopped us exchanging presents years ago sadly.

TinselandGretel · 14/12/2013 16:38

Wow OP, that's more than I've ever had as an adult, enjoy!

I'll get something from DH and the DC, and something from my parents. My brother and I just buy for each others children, ditto my friends. We don't do presents at work. So two I think. I have bought and wrapped lots more than that though!

FoundAChopinLizt · 14/12/2013 16:41

I take my 4 dcs ages 15/13/11/9 to the local indoor 'car boot' early in December and they buy presents with their saved pocket money for each other and for dh and me. I help the youngest but let the rest do their own bargaining. They really love it as a part of Christmas and they get the joy of choosing and giving with litte financial pain.

And it means I get four extra presents Grin

I can buy anything I want and I want fewer possessions not more so I like it this way.

noswingpark · 14/12/2013 19:23

Nothing for me. Which I'm absolutely fine with, I don't buy for anyone other than my children either.

MrsPear · 14/12/2013 19:44

Dh cannot be bothered and hasn't - I am upset which is daft as I am adult but I think it illustrates his feelings in general.

My nan sent me a cheque and both my sister and my mum have bought me a present.

I bought my self some new dies and a dressing gown.

Taffeta · 14/12/2013 19:54

2 from DH
1 from Mum and Dad
1 joint with DH from Sis
1 joint from BIL
1 joint from SIL
1 from MIL/PIL
1 Secret Santa

Got a lovely hamper from work yesterday. So more than enough. Feel very lucky. Xmas Smile
