What do you do with your Christmas cards?

I have no free surfaces for Christmas cards! Do they still do those Christmas card holder things? Are they really naff or can you get some ok looking ones? We already have quite a few cards and the nursery/ school cards haven't come home yet.

Last year I hung up string so it looked like bunting sort of on the walls.

fieldfare · 11/12/2013 11:24

I've got a tree shaped one that hooks over the door and the cards slot into it.

notsomuchroomattheinn · 11/12/2013 11:26

I do the same as MuffCakes and put them on strings around the kitchen.
I have 4 DC and DS1 and I have December birthdays so it gets a bit claustrophobic with cards otherwise.

notsomuchroomattheinn · 11/12/2013 11:27

Posted that too soon, saw on Pinterest about sticking them up in a Christmas tree shape that looked quite good.

WhereIsMyHat · 11/12/2013 11:27

String sounds good, I have a big ball of the brown stuff knocking around too. How did you attach it to the wall?

I tie one to the curtain rail and the other end I stick a drawing pin in and in the middle. I do the same the other side of the room to.

Or you can just blue tac them to the back of living room door?

SolidGold · 11/12/2013 11:35

I blutak them to the living room door Smile

WhereIsMyHat · 11/12/2013 16:09

So I did the string thing and it looked great and then they all fell down. Blutac doesn't hold.

I'm going to need something stronger.

Nail in either end of wall, string wrapped round nail. Bunting cards. Can't bear them all over the surfaces.

Bad citizen alert: the first four to arrive go on the mantelpiece. The rest go in a heap by the kettle until mid January when I get rid.

Actually sometimes if a really nice one arrives I swap it for one of the ones on the mantelpiece.

HaBumbug · 11/12/2013 16:46

Whatever I do with them, they fall down or fall off and bug me.

I just have them in a heap too. Blush don't send any either.

FastWindow · 11/12/2013 16:47

Handy tip alert. I keep them all till the following year. Saves writing a list.

notsomuchroomattheinn · 11/12/2013 16:53

Command Hooks work well. I used them last year loads of them and only one pulled a bit of paint work off. Before then I used drawing pins.

dotty2 · 11/12/2013 16:56

Staple top left corner of one card to bottom right corner of another (just through the back). Keep adding until the desired length. Make a hole in the top left corner of the top one of the chain and thread ribbon through. Hang from picture rail hook if lucky enough to have them, or drawing pin. Much easier than string and I think they look nice like this, and you can also flick them open to see who they're from.

I sellotape to the horrible glass living room door.

Mum2Fergus · 11/12/2013 21:04

Card holder from Next in shape of a starburst, holds loads!Close family ones on mantle...

ilovepowerhoop · 11/12/2013 21:30

we have an over the door christmas tree shaped holder.

WhereIsMyHat · 11/12/2013 21:38

I'm going to search the shed for nails in the morning and if that fails hunt down a proper holder.

Mum2Fergus I'm also a mum to Fergus, not yours obviously but my own one Grin

Dotty your method sounds great, might try that.

My parents used to do string they use sewing cotton and drawing pins to attach to the wall, if there are a lot of cards you need an extrapin in the middle.

We have book shelves in the alcoves of our front room so I slide the back of the card under the books and the front of the card hangs down over the shelf (so an L shape but you only see the front of the card. )

Mum2Fergus · 11/12/2013 22:50

Ooh Whereismyhat...you're only the 3rd Mummy I know with a Fergus...we're a very select group!Lol...

I've got a very cheapo couple of rolls of shiny cellophane-type stuff that has got star shaped holes punched out of it. - Bear with me - I unroll them and hang them down somewhere and attach the cards to the holes with mini pegs. Sounds complicated but works well and was really cheap, can't remember where. You could probably make your own if you could face it! I like it as they hang length--ways, usually over the bannisters, and not all across the rooms iyswim!
