Who you've met twice, know very little about and who is coming for Xmas dinner next weekend?

She's a teacher. That's about as much as I know. Budget under £20.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse - fantastic product and smells divine. M&S sell it at £28, but Amazon have it at £14

I'm a teacher and hate teacher related presents (unless alcoholic) so I'd just stay generic - nice smellies?

2gorgeousboys · 08/12/2013 18:39

When SIL was 'just' BIL's gf I bought her a nice scarf.

DameFanny · 08/12/2013 18:42

What does your h want to get for his side of the family?

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2013 18:53

My DH hasn't a clue what to get her either, so I thought MN might. He's not a girl and I have no taste (honestly wouldn't know the difference between a nice scarf and a nan scarf) so between us we are hopeless at generic presents :)

Bil's gf is getting a onesie
I have known her years and know she wants one

It's winter so a nice hat scarf glove set would be lovely

Only1scoop · 08/12/2013 19:00

Nice scarf and Nan scarf Grin

Nice little gift set from White company/Boots sanctuary

Nice but not ultra personal as you don't yet know her.

MunchMunch · 08/12/2013 19:02

I've bought the IL's and partners this www.cineworld.co.uk/shop?category=xmasbox

Don't know what it's like yet as I'm waiting for them to be delivered, hopefully tomorrow.

I know it says it's out of stock but typically when I had the money to buy them it was also oos but a few days later (kept checking) it came back into stock.

2tired2bewitty · 08/12/2013 19:03

I've gone for scarves too. Both from notonthehighstreet.com who have a good selection.

A True Grace candle, £24. Absolutely exquisite. ("Library" especially)

Just get her a Cineworld Christmas box which contains vouchers for 2 tickets and snacks for £20. That way they both benefit from a nice night out at the pictures over the holidays.

I wouldn't buy her smellies or scarves etc if I have only met her twice and don't know her tastes.

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 08/12/2013 19:56

I have this with SIL. Ive met her bf twice. I bought her the gifts I normally would, then got them a Cineworld Christmas Box - £20 inc 2x 3d tickets, voucher for two drinos and a large popcorn, and two little chocolates.

I figured they can enjoy it together, and less risky than picking something for someone zi dont know.

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 08/12/2013 19:56

Haha xpost!

Stationery. Every teacher I know loves stationery. Where I work, we call it stationery sex when the cupboard gets filled, and we get new pens etc... Positively orgasmic! Yes, I do need a life :-)

But I'm a teacher , the vast majority of my friends are teachers, and we all love stationery. Got to be funky stuff, not your normal boring rubbish Grin.

Failing that, alcohol.

cate16 · 08/12/2013 20:05

Quiet frankly nothing, or at most a joint gift.

But then again we've stopped all gifts other than VERY small token/table gifts. (except for children of course)

For us it's the meal together that's important.

Fancy candle, lovely luxury small toiletry think eg Kiehls lip balm, try Space NK online, moleskine notebook, the fancy fabric roll of different coloured fineliner pens on offer in Sainsburys, lovely panettone eg from Carluccios, teapot for loose-leaf tea and some loose-leaf tea, lovely slippers with fluffy insides, leather gloves, bottle of Champagne (or, better, cremant de Limoux), posh knife if into cooking, book 'Letters of Note' (v funny one from hoity-toity British ambassador to Turkey re his opposite number Mr Mustapha Kunt, many teachers having both potty mouth and childish sense of humour).

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2013 21:09

Ah, thanks for all the great ideas! I think I'm going to go with the cinema tickets. There isn't a cineworld near them but there is a vue and they do gift cards and I can order online.

Job done :)
