What to get 8 and 6 year old boys

I'm looking for inspiration for what to get my cousins' children - one's 8 and the other is 6 (not brothers).

I am thinking books. They are both bright (particularly the 6 yr old) and we are quite a bookish family, so it's a safe bet

I don't actually know them that well as they don't live near me, but I see them at family gatherings 2 or 3 times a year. The 8 year old is into Lego, but I don't want to get Lego or anything Lego related, as he is quite particular about it. The 6 year old does do quite a lot of crafty type things (if his mum's FB is anything to go by (smile)).

So any ideas on great books for this age range or any other inspiration greatly received this way

Matthew Reinhart pop up books are amazing, they are £3 over Your budget on Amazon, alternatively book tokens so they can choose themselves?

I got pack of 3 Tom Gates books for £6 on book people or book depository. These are supposed to be uk version of the Wimpy Kid or you could get The Wimpy Kid books themselves. Or David Walliam books.

Younger boy might like See Inside books by Ushbourne. We have Under The Ground, space and body ones.

The Book People have box sets of Adam Blades Beast Quest for £6.99 (for 6 books)
DS was heavily into them between the ages of 6-8 and often re-reads them now.
