hi all, i've trawled through the Christmas board and have got lots of tips for my girls, but there don't seem to be many threads for little boys!

My ds (who's 6 in April) hasn't got a wish list and doesn't seem to have any ideas about what he wants. What have you got your sons/nephews/other boys?

he likes lego, and last year really liked imaniginext batcave/castle etc. he isn't really into anything. i wouldn't know what lego to buy him though. What other building type toys are there?

all ideas welcome. thanks!

Ds is 6 at the end of the month.
He got Lego (a big bucket - not a kit).
The new bat cave & some extra wee figures.
Power rangers megazord robot guys who you can take apart and built up into one big robot, two medium ones or a bunch of individual things.
Bumblebee transformers car ( I've no idea how kids manage to do those things)
The power rangers and the transformer are building toys.

LittleMissGreen · 05/12/2013 10:25

DS3 (5) is into dinosaurs and horses. Between me and the family he will be getting dinosaur lego, little imaginext dinosaur, power rangers megablocks lego, a horse game and 'adopt a dinosaur' from the Natural History Museum.
DS2 (7) is getting an electronics kit, tagamoto and more bakugan for his collection.
I have got nephew (6) some lego city.

HeisenbergsHat · 05/12/2013 10:27

My DS is 7 next week and I got him this playtent for his birthday. I've had a quick peek at it and it looks great, he loves building dens so I'm expecting it to be a hit.

LittleMissGreen · 05/12/2013 10:27

He had this imaginext dinosaur for his birthday - liked it so much asked for another for Christmas.

HumphreyCobbler · 05/12/2013 10:27

DS is getting the Lion Temple from Lego Chima.

BeattieBow · 05/12/2013 11:08

Thanks everyone - i didn't realise that there was new imaginext stuff, it is his favourite toy I think, although he doesn't seem to play with anything much.

he has the dinosaur already and really likes it.

I haven't heard of lego chima before - i wonder whether this is a bit too difficult for him atm.

V tech mega T. rex, mobilo, build it from elc, big trak, tagamoto, hex bugs, board games like draughts, battle ships Connect 4 etc.

Rosvita · 05/12/2013 11:33

My 5 1/2 to isn't really into 'toys' either.he is getting a 3dsxl with 2 games, skylanders swapforce, then smaller things- a wwe figure (wwe about the only toys he plays with),dinosaur excavation kit, paper jams guitar and trash pack truck (bought in sale ages ago as felt I hadn't got him enough toys compared to video games but doubt he'll actually play with it!).he also will have new pjs and slippers and stocking with few little bits in.probably not much help! He's not really fussed with Lego (got the firestation last year-I built it with minimal help from him and then it was barely looked at,sat on his drawers for a few days then was packed away never to be seen again for some reason he still won't let me sell it though

BornToFolk · 05/12/2013 11:35

A second hand Lego football set
A new scooter
Operation (board game)
One Direction CD (I'm going to regret that!)
Lego Creationary
Some books

He got some K'nex for his 6th birthday and quite enjoys it but does need help. Lego is still the favourite though, he's also getting some smaller bits in his stocking.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/12/2013 11:40

Hex Bugs?

A marble run?

DS1 is 5 and he's going to get some Angry Birds Starwars stuff, haven't decided what yet. Some Lego. He is getting Mechano from family, and Playmobile.
I'm also going to get a marble run because DS2 is finally old enough not to put the marbles in his mouth and they will both love it.

StupidFlanders · 05/12/2013 11:42

Mine (5&6) are getting skylanders for their wii. They're quite cheap now too.

HappyAsEyeAm · 05/12/2013 11:53

Ds is nearly 6, and this is what he is having from us and close family:

Playmobil school (bought from Argos in the summer when it was reduced to £40), school coach, bits of the playground, camper van, speedboat, fishing boat and ice cream seller
Small hex bugs set to go with what he already has
Playmobil take along pet clinic
Remote control car
Learning resources post office set (he had the school set last year and loved it)
Some lego creator and city sets
Stocking fillers like puzzle books, colouring set, reading books, play doh, felt pens, letter writing kit, Disney DVDs (Pinocchio, 101 Dalmations Lady and the Tramp), bath foam that holds its shape, Tinti bath bombs that turn the water bright colours, the kinds of transfer things that you colour on top of with a HB pencil and they come out onto the paper (I had these when I was young), tattoos.

Other things he has had in previous years and loved are garden trampoline, play tent, hex bugs, imaginext castle and dragon, Playmobil swimming pool, aeroplane and pirate boat, duplo.

Things which I decided not to buy as I had spent enough were the make and do London Bus, the play house made from cardboard that kids can paint and colour in, extra trains for his wooden train track set, Lucy the Dog, any of the many Imaginext dinosaurs.

I am hoping that someone will get him Connect 4 as it was my favourite childhood game, but I will get it for him for his birthday if they don't.

HappyAsEyeAm · 05/12/2013 11:54

Also Usborne See Inside Trains, a lift the flaps book about space and the planets, and some childrens non fiction encyclopaedia type books from The Book People.

HappyAsEyeAm · 05/12/2013 11:59

And the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory pop up book when it was reduced a few weeks ago.

littleredsquirrel · 05/12/2013 12:03

DS2 is six and a half. He is getting

skylanders swapforce (share with brother)
lego jabbas palace (share with brother)
dino bite game (cheap plastic tat but he yearns for it)
book sets x 3
picture cubes
simon game
junior scout pocket knife (eek!)
red toolbox toolset and workbench (these are real, we are taking a risk with the furniture!)
red toolbox woodworking kits - birdhouse and bug box
lego heroica games x 2 (they all link up together to make a dungeons and dragons type game)
dvd
hex bugs
moshi monster pack
binoculars
star wars thumb doodles book

I have to say we probably wouldn't have bought many of these things for DS1 when he was six but DS2 is our second and so we are now slack parents.

LtGreggs · 05/12/2013 12:05

K'Nex is a great construction toy - a good lego alternative and good for making inventions that do things. I'd suggest get job lot off ebay rather than a specific kit - much better value and it lasts for ever.

Marble run.

sheeplikessleep · 05/12/2013 12:07

From us and family, ds (6) will be getting a DS and games, roald Dahl book set, nerf gun, lego city police, pig goes pop game (agh!), electronics kit, Scooby Doo fright house.

His stocking is full of books, smellies and toys like a whoopee cushion, torch, aqua bot, aqua gliders, small lego set, finger skateboards etc.

spiderlight · 05/12/2013 12:17

Ours is getting a desperately longed-for steerable sledge from Santa (so it had better snow!), Skylanders Swap Force (from my dad), and then from us a much-needed new bike, a Tagamoto road set, a remote control bubble car, a Dalek, some cars/trucks (job lot off ebay - his list specified '100000000 cars, diffrent maks' Grin) and probably some basic lego bits and bobs. He's totally car obsessed.

Needingthework · 05/12/2013 12:20

Playmobil police station
Imaginext Superman playset
Tech deck ramps with additional skateboards
Aquadragons
The 4 Ninja Turtle play figures
Plus dvd, onesie, books and stocking stuff

SparklyNewNameChange · 05/12/2013 12:21

From us he's getting:
A new onesie
A book about the Smurfs (he loves them, I... don't!)
A second hand but genuine Liverpool football strip
A Gigglebiz joke book (this was the only thing he put on his actual list, bless!)
An Angry Birds annual
A story book he loves from shared reading at school
A chocolate selection box (old school!)

Three Lego Creator model sets from Granny and Granddad

His stocking will have chocolate coinds, a satsuma, a small snack pack of nuts, a pack of Smurfs Top Trumps, a wtaer-painting book, a paint brush, and possibly some stickers and a couple of other poundshop items (possibly some slipper socks if I can find them this year).

tobiasfunke · 05/12/2013 12:22

DS is 5 and he loves his batcave but he also likes his Playmobil castle and pyramid.
This year he is getting
Hexbugs (because they seem to be on offer everywhere)
Zoomer the robot dog (which is what he wants).
Some sort of gross magic set (which is what he really really wants)
Robofish
Then a few games, dvds, books and tat.

We had trouble getting him to choose anything as his main occupation at the moment seems to be making stuff by cutting up cardboard boxes and sticking bits of paper to them. (sigh)

Badvocatyuletide · 05/12/2013 12:25

My 5 yr old is getting playmobil dinosaurs and knights.
A shared table football table with his brother, lots of colouring books and pens, pirate story books, lots of little things like a slinky and kaleidoscope.

Badvocatyuletide · 05/12/2013 12:25

Oh, and a. Small nerf gun.

TheXmasLogIn · 05/12/2013 12:49

My 6yo DS doesn't really do the imaginative play things, he loves lego for the build only, then it is displayed on a shelf and must never be touched again. So he is getting a few more sets of lego and a lego board game, plus a rubix cube he asked for (after doing toys from the olden days project at school Hmm), some DVDs, books and a wii game. He has also just started Beavers so I've got him a few items related to that- although I'm not as brave as the PP who has bought the scout penknife!

Other toys he already has that he enjoys playing with and are probably classed as 'construction' type toys too- marble run, snap circuits and also the angry birds game sets, where you build up the designs on the card then fire the birds at it, to knock it over. There are lots of sets for it so you can add extra pieces to your tower or get new birds.

He also loves doing jigsaws too and we have got a joint one for us all to do. Will be the first time they try a 1000 piece one even though DS has been asking for these since age 3.

TheXmasLogIn · 05/12/2013 12:51

Oh I forgot hexbugs too- but he gets annoyed with those because the batteries are forever running out and the track pieces can snap very easily.
