Best Playmobil for almost 5yr old DS?

We haven't had any Playmobil yet (not sure how we missed it!) but am thinking of getting some bits for DS for Christmas. His aunty and uncle have already bought him the pirate ship, and we got the school when it was on offer the other day as Grandma's present. What else have your DC played with? I quite like the look of the swimming pool but feel as though I should get other bits to go with it like the campsite and the camper van to make a whole little scene!
I think I am running the risk of being more excited about Playmobil than DS is Hmm

So what do you recommend? Or, can someone make a decision for me please as I don't seem to be able to!!

My DS likes random bits and has the pirate ship too.
He's got a penguin enclosure which he loves. He has asked for the swimming pool for Xmas but I have ordered him some of the cowboy and Indians sets.

We've got a space set and a police station with car, ambulance, helicopter etc.. Ds is also 4, he has got them since last year and plays with both often. I think that you can't go wrong with playmobil.

He's not getting any this Christmas because he did ask for other things, but I'm thinking of getting him the castle for his birthday.

We got my DS the fire station for his 5th birthday and he also got the firen engine off a grandparent, then for his 6th birthday this year, he got the castle. He loves it and has got quite a few bits over the last couple of years. Playmobil is great as you can ask relatives to get additional bits to build up a set, eg DD turned 5 this year and she had the Princess castle and family bought her the furniture sets etc to go with it.

We have the old style pool and it is great, esp as you can fill it with water.

I would say vehicles are a good starter - we have the bus, which is excellent, and a car with a trailer pulling a jet ski, and a helicopter and a tractor and they all get lots of use, though I would say the bus and car are the best. Some vehicles you can put a remote control unit in i would be playing with it all day too, if we had one

We have: the swimming pool, the play park (dino slide, sandpit, swings etc), pirates & treasure chest which opens out into an island scene, knights with castle, roman amphitheatre & gladiators, assorted cars, trucks and police vehicles, the airport & aeroplane.

They have all been played with to excess. Often in conjunction with Lego. The swimming pool was a huge hit with my youngest DS and he often played quite happily with it by itself rather than needing any add ons. The version we have came with sun loungers, people, picnic items, lilos (sp?), buckets & spades etc. DS loved the shower which is operated by a pump and requires very little water - so it's not as if they are sloshing bucket loads everywhere!

My boys are now 9 and 13….and even the eldest has been known to have a sneaky playmobil sesh when he thinks nobody is looking Wink
