sylvanian families - optimum age and other questions.

My youngest dd is 6 and really loves playmobil and is enjoying our sparsely furnished dolls house.
We really don't need anymore playmobil and have a houseful of toys so I was wondering about sylvanians for her? But she commented in a toyshop "i'm too old for sylvanians now, aren't I" which I suspect is a phrase she has picked up from someone saying something. I do think she would love them, but, is 6 too old? How many years do kids usually play with them?

Do they work quite well in a typical sized doll's house?
Is it pointless getting them when we already have a load of playmobil?
I was thinking of a couple of families and some other bits, but not really the big (expensive) houses etc.
I know there's no right answer to this, just wondering what others have found.

You need more playmobil!
Buy some playmobil furniture.

Savalian (sp) families are twee beyond imagining, by 8 she'll have out grown them. (At 12 DD2 still sneaks a quiet playmobil fix)

Dd9 loves Sylvanians and has outgrown Playmobil.

Dd is having the village store for Christmas.

SF are more detailed.

Retropear · 02/12/2013 10:50

Yes SF do fit doll's houses.

DD is four and adores her sylvanians, but she is only just big enough for them, I certainly don't think six is too old.

Incidently neither of mine have had any interest in playmobil which is ashame as my mum saved loads of my brothers.

Thanks all. Don't know what to think, head spinning with too many presents to get! maybe i'll get a few bits and see if and how they get played with.. we can always top up for birthday.

DD1 was given loads of sylvanian families last Christmas (she was 5yr 8m). She absolutely loves them and plays with them all the time. This year, aged "6 and nearly three-quarters", she has asked for some more sf bits and pieces - nursery bus, village store etc. to add to her collection.
DD2 (1yr 11m) likes them too and is forever trying to play with her sister's!

We have avoided playmobil as it looked so boring!
DDs have had Sylvanian stuff for years, lots passed down from SILs and lots new. They are now 8 and 9 and still love their SF. They have some of the houses and then most of the furniture sets and characters. The thing they really like doing is rooting around in the big crate finding all the tiny bits and pieces to set the houses up, they don't really 'play' with it as in doing their voices and walking the people around that much. It's usually just the setting up. But it still amuses them for hours. SF and lego are their main loves!

We are just getting into what dd, 3, calls her "silverbanians".
I suspect we will be drowning in them come Christmas, as she has asked anyone who'll listen if Father Christmas brings Silverbanians.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 02/12/2013 14:29

dd1 is 6
she started getting Sylvanians at 3, and is still into them. I reckon will get another couple of years of her playing with them at least.

toffeelolly · 02/12/2013 14:53

My dd 7 loves her sv not at all babyish , lots of detail to them, she just loves them, she getting more from Santa this year. She loves sv and monster high dolls, my dd would think playmobil would be to babyish, she would not be into playmobil at all.

My oldest 2 at 8 and 6 both still love playmobil and Sylvanian. They live in a blended family! From the people I have asked Sylvanian last longer than playmobil and often till age 10.

The Sylvanian car and caravan is a good one for both playmobil and Sylvanian to live in.

Have you looked at the main online playmobil store? We got things there for DD2's 6th birthday recently and it has been a big hit. The new large coach. A princess carriage that comes with horses, small people and dog sets. There are lots of bits available that aren't in the main shops.

WholeNutt · 02/12/2013 15:06

Dsd is 10 she loves her Sylvanian stuff..it's just so expensive and so many tiny pieces to lose!

iddybiddy · 03/12/2013 19:48

ok I'm sold! SF it is and I'm pretty sure she'll really love them. Thanks all, just needed a few extra opinions.

DD1 is 12 and although otherwise into all 12 year old things she still loves her sylvannians. And whenever they launch a new family she buys it with her pocket money.

DD2 is 9 and likes them. But not with the passion of DD1. She is more into Lego and skylanders.

They have both 'outgrown' the playmobil; which DS who is 2.5 is getting into.

DD1 has lots and lots of sylvannians - I've lost count. The absolute nicest things she thinks - apart from the figures - are the caravan and the barge. So much detail. She also has a Victorian dolls house and they can work in there.

I'm 47. I love sylvannians.
