Please please help me find a baby dragon for DD

DD has been changing her mind weekly about what Santa is bringing her but pretty consistently she's been asking for a (Schleich) baby for her big dragon. She's even chosen a name and showed me the picture in the schleich catalogue. Going online to Amazon and a couple of model shops I see that the one she's pointed out (Schleich call it Nugur, DD's name for it is much cuter) is now rare and collectible and over twenty quid plus postage, which as it's stocking filler sized I really don't want to pay! I've looked everywhere I can think of and quietly mentioned to her that Santa might not be able to find that particular dragon and she's decided any baby dragon would be ok. Can anyone suggest a cute baby dragon about that size but around a tenner?

Not the same as a Schleich, but is this any good.

How big is the one she wanted and is it made out of resin?

If that one is the sort of thing you're looking for, there's are lots of different ones for sale on Ebay here. They seem to be quite collectable and go for a fair few ££'s on a buy-it-now, but there are plenty on auction that seem reasonably priced.

This one isn't as intricate as the Schleich, but is in a very similar pose.

Thanks Moosemama, I'd been trying various combinations of 'dragon' 'baby' 'hatchling' and 'shell' but hadn't heard of pocket dragons. Any idea what size they are? Her big Schleich dragon is at least 12 inches tall and I think is resin - strictly speaking it's a Faraun I think - so as long as the baby was somewhat in proportion I think she'll be delighted.

Hmm, the pocket dragons may be too small then.

This one says it's 8.5 cm tall by 8 cm wide, whereas the Schleich Nugur is 15 x 16.5 x 18 cm.

I bought that dragon on amazon for £13 a few weeks ago! Keep an eye as prices fluctuate massively!

pocket dragons are made of china which I'm not sure is what your dd has in mind.

is there something you could not get to get the one she wants instead?

moosemama · 30/11/2013 20:31

They are resin, paperlantern. Info on how they're made here.

I agree they're not toys, but there doesn't seem to be anything else that even comes close to the Schleich Bayala toys. Depends whether dd just collects them or wants to actually play with them I suppose.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 30/11/2013 22:55

She is 6 and definitely wants to play with them.

Thanks for the tip Henrietta - I am sure MSE site have a link to set up an alert if it drops below a certain price so fingers crossed, there's maybe still time.
