Leappad Ultra for a 6 year old?

DS is 6 and has a Leappad Ultra on his Christmas list.

I believe that you can go online on them, but to what extent?

Do you think he might be a bit too old for one of these, and better off with a cheap tablet?

Thanks!

My dd got a leappad for christmas two years ago when she was 5.9, she and dd2 (now 5) still play with it, to different extents. When we went on holiday last year i bought two new games for it entertain them on the train. They cost £40 in total.

By the time this year's holiday came around i owned an ipad, so i downloaded a couple of new apps for them. Some were free, but even the ones i paid for were so much cheaper than the leappad games.

I think we paid about £60 for the leappad, i believe you can get tablets for £70. Given my time again, i know what i'd do. Although i'd want to password protect the internet access otherwise they'd end up watching cartoons in russian all day.

The children also watch films on my iPad on long journeys, and it can be plugged into the tv when we reach our destination too. I imagine this is possible with other tablets, although i don't know for sure.

Thanks Janek, I will have a look at the tablets. I just wonder whether the Leappad would be better quality than a cheap tablet though. Confused!

Yeah, don't know. Ours is not a leappad ultra. There's practising letters game on ours which can be frustrating as it doesn't always recognise what you've done, and that's with a stylus. But i've never used a cheap tablet...

I regretted getting my daughter a leap pad and would much rather she had a tablet when she's a bit older. I found the games quite expensive and the navigation clumsy and difficult. She hardly plays with it at all!

Thank you! Decision made!

Will be bargain hunting for a reasonable tablet.

Thanks again.
