Elf is sent by Santa to watch child(ren) in the run up to Christmas. Every evening he flies back to the North Pole to give his report. He then returns to your home, usually landing somewhere different every night. sometimes he gets bored while everyone is asleep and gets up to mischief. In some families they occasionally bring small treats or gifts.

On Christmas eve, elf leaves to go back to the north pole until next December. Often they will leave a hamper containing new PJs before they depart.
