Dd is 9, she loves dh's kindle fire and we said she could have one of her own for Xmas, but if she was sure as it will be her main present and we can only afford a few small other presents. She is used to getting say 10 presents of roughly the same value. She will be getting some presents fom family as well.

She ummed and ahhed a bit, then dh said he thought she shouldn't get one as it might be better for her to get more presents but she decided she really wanted it after all. So now dh has ordered it because we wanted to be sure of getting it and at the price advertised. We told dd it has been ordered so she knew what to expect.

Now dd is having a bit of a bad day and has had a trip to dentist for a filling which upset her. She suddenly got really upset and wanted to change her mind about it. I know this will annoy dh (hes not here right now) but what is the best way round this. Should we say too late now or try to return it.

What is your budget for smaller gifts on top of the kindle ? My honest opinion is she's old enough to understand that if she's asked for a more expensive present, she can't just change her mind. (Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's my approach) you can make a little go a long way on stocking fillers if you have a budget for extras.

We can definately spend £20 maybe slightly more

It's ordered. Hard luck! That's a very expensive present she shouldn't be able to mess you about on a whim. Tomorrow when she's not having a bad day she'll probably be quite happy about it.
