Help me find some background Christmas music

What albums do you like for background Christmas music. Easy listening, either all instrumental, or carol type, or something a bit different from the usual Christmas number 1type albums. Something that you'd notice if you want to listen and not otherwise.

Well I don't know if I've made sense there!

I know what you mean and I'm marking my place because

ExcuseTypos · 25/11/2013 16:13

Sorry!

Because I'd like an album like that [ smile]

I used to have a Napster subscription and now use Deezer. Napster used to have "radio stations" that just played a series of related songs, Deezer I'm not so sure as I am still relatively new to it.
I liked Napster because you never knew what was coming and there was always something that made you stop and listen. I think it's £9.95 a month for Napster, Deezer is free as part of my mobile contract so not sure. That's the cost of one album and I'm sure you can cancel at any time :)

I think Libera's Christmas album fits the bill

OldRoan · 25/11/2013 22:28

I have a Salvatiom Army Brass Band CD of Christmas songs. Got it years ago in a supermarket bargain bin, but I love it to pieces. Atmospheric and lovely but easy to tune out if it isn't too loud.

Mefisto · 25/11/2013 22:34

The Phil Spector Christmas album is a favourite here.

Sillysarah49 · 26/11/2013 08:29

The Annie Lennox xmas CD - cannot wait to play it again - its gorgeous.

muppetthecow · 26/11/2013 08:36

Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band did a great Christmas album a few years back called 'Carols and Capers'. It's a great one for having in the background because the tunes are all familiar but the arrangements are different. These are the only two I could find on YouTube:

Nix01 · 26/11/2013 08:52

The Michael Buble Christmas album

Mefisto · 26/11/2013 11:38

There is a great Dave Brubeck Christmas album (sample here ).

How about a bit of Ella Fitzgerald? Her xmas abum is entitled Ella wishes you a swinging Christmas.

Here is some Phil Spector. Just perfect! .
