Nice coffee for my brother to take to work

I don't drink coffee at all so haven't got a clue about which ones are nice.

I was thinking of getting my brother a jar with some nice chocolates but which one?

Thank you.

And I'm thinking probably instant as anything else night be a faff.

Does he really like coffee?

I gave it up a while ago as I was drinking far too much. Some of my colleagues "treat themselves" to an occasional Mellow Birds which isn't coffee at all IMO. A new colleague has started bringing in Nescafé Espresso (although she drinks it white) It smells divine.

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 25/11/2013 14:34

He definitely drinks coffee but not sure if he really likes it.

He buys for my 3 DC every year but doesn't have any himself so i like to get him some thing, he is hard to buy for as all he seems to do is work!

Thank you.

I started writing and then realised you said instant. I'm not sure about a good instant (because I like whole-bean strong stuff) but how about the ones that are a blend of fresh and instant? They look like instant and you make them the same way but they are better quality. Nescafe Azera is one (get it in the supermarkets) and Starbucks Via is another.

LaCerbiatta · 25/11/2013 14:41

You can buy filters that already come with coffee that are for single use. Much nicer than instant and maybe better as a present?

I'll see if I can find a link.

LaCerbiatta · 25/11/2013 14:44

Coffee filters

brass · 25/11/2013 14:45

Nescafe Azera recommended by coffee drinking DH too.

I believe the taller jars of this were on offer in Asda this weekend.

ObtuseAngel · 25/11/2013 14:47

M&S Columbian or Italian coffee filters are both good, they come in a box of ten. I've never found an instant that was really good, but some people do prefer instant because they find the real stuff too strong, in which case Percol Americano instant is probably the best.

Felix90 · 25/11/2013 14:48

I find most instants pretty gross but it's just so convenient on a weekday before work. I tried Azera recently which was quite nice. We usually buy Carte Noir. I find with the Azera/Millicano type ones, the pot doesn't last long as you have to use loads for your coffee to actually taste of anything Hmm

LaCerbiatta · 25/11/2013 15:31

I'm a coffee snob and don't usually drink instant hut agree that carte noir is the nicest.

tattychicken · 25/11/2013 15:35

Carte Noire Espresso is about the best instant I've had. With milk, it's a lovely strong and creamy coffee.

AryaofhouseQuark · 25/11/2013 15:38

Yy, we buy carte noir instant it's good for instant.

We love coffee and I would interested to see what naice beans or ground coffee people buy as I would like to get some for us dp for Christmas.

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 25/11/2013 17:10

I was thinking of getting a cafeteria (the little jug with a plunger, not sure i have got the right word!) but thought it might be a bit of a faff with work. He is a security guard and works a mixture of days and nights.

Thanks everyone i will have a look at the recommendations.

I know what you mean, a caffitiere or a French press is easier to spell, I had to google caffitiere and it doesn't bode well with my auto correct.
We got a cheap one on Amazon, I don't think you need to spend a huge amount on them. I don't think it's a faf at all it only takes a couple of seconds. The only thing I would say is don't just buy a one cup pot as their cups are proper stingy.

AryaofhouseQuark · 25/11/2013 17:36

Caffetiere I think [clueless]

LaFataTurchina · 25/11/2013 17:42

kenco millicano is the nicest instant coffee (IMO), plus the tin it comes in is quite snazzy. It's strong as well.

Starbucks instant is nice (and strong) too but I don't think the packaging is as nice, though their tea tins are lovely.

oscarwilde · 25/11/2013 17:44

What about buying him a thermal coffee mug instead? Dead handy in the office

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 25/11/2013 18:12

Thermal mug sounds good. I'm trying not to use Amazon this year, is there anywhere else i can get one?

Tk maxx normally have loads and Aldi had them in on special recently...may still be a few left. A two pack was about £3.50 and so far I'm very impressed with mine.

DisneyAddict88 · 25/11/2013 18:43

i got a thermos one in tesco (own brand) for £3.50 and kept my coffee hot for around 5 hours was still steaming!

alternitivly primark had some nice china type ones with pics on them.

SarahPercyAndBill · 25/11/2013 18:49

Monmouth
Square Mile
Climpsons

All fantastic, small independent roasters in London with a huge following.

AryaofhouseQuark · 25/11/2013 18:56

Thanks Sarah, good nn btw. We read owl babies tonight. I have heard about Monmouth coffee before so will try that one.

Cromwell44 · 25/11/2013 19:14

You can get a thermal mug with a coffee press in it. I got one for my DH, They sort of contain the washing up. I got mine from Amazon about 3 years ago but I bet other places do them too. Try giggling cafetiere mug.

Cromwell44 · 25/11/2013 19:15

Or even googling, thanks iPad.

Felix90 · 25/11/2013 19:18

Cromwell didn't make they existed! OH would love one of those. Thank you
