Ok so I bought DD at 2DS - so do I buy DS games or 3DS for Christmas?

DD (6) got vouchers and asked me to order a 2DS for her birthday and then wants some games for Christmas. I should say that we haven't received it yet - so I still know nothing about them, as have never had a DS/3DS before.

Now I know the 2DS is like the 3DS with the 3D switch off, so would it be best getting DS games or 3DS games?

I believe that some of the 3DS games require the depth from 3D to play them, so I don't want to buy something that will be unplayable. Similarly, I've heard that DS games might not look very good when played on a 2DS.

I don't want to waste money - does anyone have any advice please?

the 2DS is backwards compatible so any game will play, the quality should be the same, obviously the 3DS games will only play in 2D, they will all be playable though

hope that helps :)

Thanks SolemnHour - so can I just buy DS games and save myself a lot of cash then? Someone told me that the DS games will be quite pixelated? Maybe DD might not notice - but mummy might if she borrows it and tries one of these Professor Layton games that people go on about! Wink

i've not seen it for myself but as far as i know the nintendo website says all ds games can be played just as well on the 2DS as any other system so i would think it should be fine, was looking into it myself as im getting ds a 2DS for his birthday (he will be 8) and all his current games are old style DS for his DS LITE

I pick it up tomorrow, so I think i'll buy a cheap DS game and see what it looks like before i buy more. It's all a bit confusing, hopefully there'll be more talk about it once people start using them. I was looking at the comments of people who have the 3DS and play DS games who were complaining.
There has to be people out there with them as they seem sold out in most places!

You can play both. Some bargain games on ebay.
