What to put in a wooden advent calendar

Christmas and advent have kind of snuck up on me pesky dissertation being due in November

I have a nice wooden advent calendar that I bought in the post Christmas sales, planning to use it this year - particularly for DD2 who is allergic to dairy, so chocolate calendar is out.

But it only just dawned on me that I need to fill it! Blush

I have 2 DDs - 2yo & 6yo, and although the 6to will probably have a chocolate calendar, I should probably put something in each drawer for both. But what??

I have put various things over the years such as rubbers (blotts are good for older children), moshi monsters, christmas hair bands, hair clips, lego or playmobile figures, messages from elves, small animals or dinosaurs, finger puppets.

They do sell a lot of dairy free chocolate? Most supermarkets sell dairy free chocolate buttons, I put one of them for each of my DC in our wooden advent calendar. This year I'm also putting a different country in each door and then will tell them how Christmas is celebrated in that country.

Try Hawkins Bazaar for things like:

Stretchy Men
Stick on gems
Novelty putty
Jumping beans

....and loads more if you look under Pocket Money Toys

(although some probably not suitable for 2yo)

I usually just put a celebration in each one and a £2.00 coin in the last one
