Which mulled wine shall I get - Aldi, Lidl or something else?

I love mulled wine, but have held off buying any so far this year due to boring budget reasons.

It's only a few days until the 1st, when I can (finally) let rip and decorate the house. I will need mulled wine. Grin

But which one? Must be cheap. Not a lot of cash about.

I will be buying several a bottle from Lidl (thanks for reminding me) as I have for the past few years, also I think they do their own version of Baileys which is good too! Never been to Aldi so I can't compare.

How much in Lidl?

Artandco · 22/11/2013 12:42

£5 in lidl ( well £4.99)- it is the same one they use in the German Xmas markets

FedupofTurkey · 22/11/2013 14:35

How much for, its £2.50 in asda

Callmecordelia · 22/11/2013 14:58

Is the Asda one nice? For £2.50 I could get several bottles (hic).

1 litre I think...but not 100% as my supply is at home and I'm not :)

chanie44 · 22/11/2013 16:17

I got the lidl one but I haven't tried it yet. My local store sells out quickly, so you need to get your supply when they have it.

TheXmasLog the Lidl 'Baileys' is awesome!

cocoplops · 22/11/2013 16:25

Tesco's one was £3.49 a few weeks ago and was v nice. Nicer than lidl's I thought

enormouse · 22/11/2013 18:13

I bought the asda one last year and its quite nice. So I've bought the ginger one this year and a few bottles of the alcohol free one from ikea. The alcohol free comes in regular and apple/mulled cider flavour for about £1.50 and I guess you could add your own booze to it.

madinmay · 22/11/2013 20:28

co-op one is good too!

Why on earth buy ready made mulled wine? It is so easy and much cheaper to make your own. Bottle of cheap wine, quarter of a wine bottle of water, simmer with slices of orange, plus nutmeg and cinnamon, add sugar to taste. For less potency add more water or orange juice, for extra potency add brandy. Far better than the manufactured ones.

We used the Tesco one at our Christmas Fair yesterday and it was lovely...added oranges, spices....£3.49 a bottle.

EirikurNoromaour · 23/11/2013 07:58

A couple of cheapie bottles of red - £6. A cheapie carton of orange juice - 50p and you get more than 2 litre. I have cinnamon and star anise in my cupboard, plus cloves and nutmeg are nice. Much better than ready made IMO.

Callmecordelia · 23/11/2013 08:45

It's just me going to be drinking on my own..... I can't justify blowing such a large bit of my shopping budget on Orange juice, oranges, spices and wine to make my own and there would be far too much. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Aldi also do a litre of mulled cider for cheaper around Three pounds think it is called apelfwein? If it is a hot christmassy alco drink you want then it will do the job!
