Older Child's Marble Run - Which is Best?

SunshineAndPeardrops · 19/11/2013 10:45

My mum is looking to get my brother a marble run for Christmas.

He will be 10 just after Christmas, so she's looking for something that's quite complex and not too babyish.

Are there any marble runs that are particularly good for this age group?

Not too sure of budget at this stage...Probably about £30ish

TIA Thanks

I can't remember what sort of marble run my dses had, but it was wooden, and I am afraid it wasn't actually much good. When put together, the marbles didn't actually run down the runs, and the boys very quickly got disenchanted with it, and it never got played with again.

Would your mum consider something else - a starter Meccano set, maybe, or a lego kit? Meccano would have the advantage that, if he enjoys it, she could add to it over the years for birthdays and christmas.

This at £19.99 looks like a lot of fun.

we have an excellent wooden one that my husband likes to make do tricks - its made by Haba but its a bit more than your budget - you buy different sets to build bigger more complicated tracks :)

Hawkmoth that looks amazing! Do you think my 13 year old DD would like this or would she look at me as if I was mad? Grin I would quite like it myself

Ours is called Marbellous. I think! I've heard good things about the galt one too.

Hawkmoth · 19/11/2013 11:32

I've not got it, we have a standard plastic one. I would love it too though, but we don't have room.

My mum wants to buy him a marble run as that is what he says he would really like. I will work my way through all these suggestions, thanks. If anyone has any more that would be fab

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

SavoyCabbage we had a look on Amazon, and ordered one from the same brand as the one your dcs have. It looked good when it arrived. I do hope he likes it.

Thanks Smile

We have a quadrilla (?) One, but seen a mechanical one on the Maplins website which looked good. But you're obviously sorted now!
