So have made a fairly last minute decision to make my mum an advent calendar this year as she never has one so thought it would be a nice treat! Basically I'm thinking I'll get some nice chocolate for half the days but would like some novelties/goodies for the other days and would appreciate ideas! My mum is in her 50's she likes baking and reading and got a very good sense of humour, I await your wonderful ideas (you never normally let me down)

TIA xxx

Cookie cutters.

One of those things that you press down on an apple and it peels and slices it (bought one today from Dunelm Mill, lol).

Handbag diary.

Miniatures of her favourite spirits.

Jar of decent jam.

Pack of tissues with a picture on. Have seen union jacks and cats so far this year!

Lush bath bomb.

Mini shower gel/shampoo/body lotion type treats from Lush

Mini bottle of nail polish

Unusual flavours of essences/extracts for baking

In department stores when trying fragrances, I've always found staff very keen to give me two or three of those sampler vials of expensive perfumes. That could be worth a try.

Magazines like Marie Claire normally at this time of year have free mini luxury products. You could buy the magazine and put the freebie in the calendar perhaps?

I realise the last two make me sound rather cheap!

I once made an advent calendar for my friend featuring naked men. ( we were 18 )

My dad came in with a cup of tea as I was making it and said 'what ARE you doing' to which I cheerily replied ' making an advent calender for B'

Not sure if this helps

Eyeshadow, lippie, lipsalve for v.cold days, or tiny kitchen gadgets like a miniature grater for nutmeg, or a stemgem which removes the green bit from strawberries, or a tiny balloon whisk.
