Does anyone know if Lucy the dog is any good? My dd has decided she wants one but has way too much already and am a bit reluctant to spend another £30 unless it's amazing!

IHeartKingThistle · 21/11/2013 23:11

2kids the Works are horrendous for this. I don't know how they're making any money. I did a massive order last month and it came in dribs and drabs, the highlight being the day a man in a van made a special journey to my house so I could sign for a very small parcel containing a single packet of Post-it notes. Confused

zipzap · 21/11/2013 23:20

OK dumb question here. I've just tried to order some of the notepads off ebay.com that neddle linked to. I tried doing a worldwide search within ebay.co.uk for them but I couldn't find the sellers she used (and I've double checked, just in case neddle isn't in the UK, it does ship to the UK, it's a chinese/HK store).

I already have an ebay.co.uk account. It wouldn't let me sign into ebay.com with an ebay.co.uk account so I created a new ebay.com acount. But as soon as it asks me for an address, it throws me back to the ebay.co.uk site and won't let me continue on the ebay.com site, despite knowing the seller does ship the product I want to the UK.

Anybody got any ideas on how I can actually buy something from ebay.com?

many thanks

riskit4abiskit · 21/11/2013 23:20

Thanks for the bbc history mag link!

snowgirl1 · 21/11/2013 23:29

Does anyone know where I can get one of these Kitchen grips oven gloves for a bargainous price? Bizarrely John Lewis are the cheapest I can find them - can't find cheaper on Amazon on eBay. Surely there's somewhere selling them cheaper than JL?!

GreatSoprendo · 21/11/2013 23:32

Does it have to be that brand snowgirl? I'm sure I've seen something extremely similar in TK Maxx in the past few days.

snowgirl1 · 21/11/2013 23:36

Oooh, hadn't thought of TK Maxx - there's one near my work so I'll pop in there at lunchtime tomorrow. Thanks GreatSoprendo!

kateecass · 22/11/2013 00:14

Re Bath and unwind. The only way I seem to be able to see the offer of the day is by signing up for the email each time then the link to the offer appears on screen. Anyway they seem to have changed it to only getting the order when you spend a minimum amount of money. Offer today is a free Crabtree and Evelyn duo worth £8 when you spend £35. Still wish I'd finished signing in as my DH to get another Aromatherpy associates gift :-(

scrappydappydoo · 22/11/2013 00:39

Right I'm in need of help and inspiration :

I've brought a tastecard for my mum - how can I make it look interesting to unwrap - an envelope seems boring.

I have my 9yr old niece to buy for she loves sailing and is sporty and outdoorsy so I was going to buy her 'swallows and amazons' plus something else but not sure what??? - max budget £10

DD2 is insisting that FC is getting her a talking lion king simba - cheapest I can find one is £15 which is still to much imho can anyone find it cheaper before I go 2nd hand off ebay.

Niece no. 2 wants 'Boggle' - again can't find it cheaper that £15? preferably around the £10 mark.

TIA

zipzap · 22/11/2013 01:26

scrappy for games like boggle, try places like home bargains and b&m - I've had great game bargains from them in the past. Last year I got yahtzee for a fiver; this year I've had Lego creationary and Lego pirates game for half price. Pretty sure one of them was advertising things like twister dance for £12 instead of £35 and they usually have plenty of choice.

Taste card - could you get several boxes that will go inside each other so she gets one big box, opens it, finds a small present finger lights and another box to unwrap and so on, until the last one which is just the card.

Bit like a pass the parcel except with boxes instead of just wrapping paper and then put an interesting little foodie gift into each layer. Bacon jam comes to mind obviously after all these threads (and could you get a bargains flavourly box to split the bits from it for this?), a bar of her favourite chocolate, tk maxx have some nice cheap kitchen bits - I got a lovely ceramic knife with cover there a couple of months ago for a couple of pounds) or they have cute washing up brushes etc. And then it will be a great present to unwrap!

joymaker · 22/11/2013 04:36

TooWet you're a star! You have made two little boys very happy this chistmas and saved me some money Thanks Thanks

Cadence I imagine if so thank you but NO WAY!!! And thank goodness you didn't buy it yourself!! I feel mean too but we have to draw a line somewhere right? Grin

scrappy I second zipzaps suggestion of trying places like home bargains and b&m they are really good for a wide variety of kids games.
Happened to see that instore yesterday that Home Bargains had Skylanders chocolate advent calendars on sale for 49p for those with fans (can't vouch for quality though).

I'm interested in the BBC history mag trial sub for DP but do you think it would be interesting for someone who already knows a lot about history or is it more suited for a student/learner. For those who have subscribed who is the magazine aimed at?

DrankSangriaInThePark · 22/11/2013 06:05

Lucythevaliant- (hope I have remembered that right!) the snitch (and numerous other cheap as chips HP thing)s are on Amazon and/or ebay. I've had a time turner and a snitch so far, (for about £2 delivered)

I've never bought from Ebay.com, but I have bought from ebay.it/ebay.de/ebay.fr and never had a problem. Are the items maybe not available for shipping abroad or something?

3bunnies · 22/11/2013 06:28

Lucythevaliant this is the snitch I got, or rather snitches, although I am sure they were cheaper. They did take about a month to arrive so not sure if they will get here for Christmas now. They are available singly too.

sOODdragon · 22/11/2013 06:37

zipzap I just sign into eBay.com with my .co.uk address.

worley · 22/11/2013 07:16

If anyone sees the dr who one at that price please let me know! Thanks

emark · 22/11/2013 07:25

milk · 22/11/2013 07:34

Has anyone else opened a new Amazon account just so they can get a free 30 day trial to Amazon Prime?

sOODdragon · 22/11/2013 07:38

I didn't even open a new one. My last trial expired on the 19th and I got a new free trial yesterday.

TheOnlyPink · 22/11/2013 07:43

Not sure if this is a help to anyone, but I just saved a tenner, so will post just in case!

Ds1 asked for an alarm clock from Santa, and was going to get him a lego star wars one from amazon, they are all about 20 quid. Got him a darth maul one from Here for £10 with free delivery. They do Ninjago and DC superheroes etc.

The only place that sells them here is Debenhams, was looking at them yesterday and they were €32, I just paid €12, so I am a very happy bargain hunter!

Ihopeyoudance · 22/11/2013 07:51

joymaker I really hope the BBC history magazine is suitable for people who already know a lot as that describes DH! I suppose most knowledgeable people have a period they know about particularly so it won't always be about that.
I based my decision on the BBC's history programmes which DH always enjoys watching (even if to complain they've got it wrong, missed bits, oversimplified, forgotten about Wales again!) I figured for a fiver it was worth a shot and I might fancy reading it too- bonus!

Nix01 · 22/11/2013 08:10

It's Black Friday today isn't it???

snowgirl1 · 22/11/2013 08:13

Emark, thanks but I'm one of those unlucky folk who don't live near a B&M (or Home Bargains) Hmm

Nix, Black Friday is next week (but apparently the bargains start next week and climax on Friday)

sOODdragon · 22/11/2013 08:14

Yes, Black Friday week is next week. I didn't leave the house for a week last year :o

Chelvis · 22/11/2013 08:16

joymaker and Ihopeyoudance, I'd say I know a lot about history (BA, MA, write a history related blog) and I've just asked DH to get me the £5 BBC history subscription, so I would say it's a great present. It tends to be a little on the basic side about subjects I'm really interested in (like my dissertation topics), but in the year I subscribed, that was only one or two articles. I enjoy reading it.
