What to buy the baby...

He'll be 4 and a half months at Christmas. I know he's too young, I know he won't appreciate it, and I know it's for my benefit not his. But I want to get him some toys, he has a rainforest playmat and swing all ready and I have bought him a Jumperoo when it was reduced to £50 for Christmas.

I want to buy some toys that will last through the year and grow with him.. Any ideas?

Watching with interest if that's ok!

I think any of the Lamaze toys are really good. They have the appropriate ages on them.

My ds will be 6 mths. Trying to hold back but bet I go mad buying just before

I got one week old dd some toys at christmas, and just put tgem aside for when she could use them. Ideas:
Sophie Giraffe
Stacking cups (Poubdland)
Linking rings (ditto)
Board books

Cuddly toys are a good one as they grow to love them more and more (DS is 21 months and is cuddling a baby doll I bought him aaaages ago which he was fairly disinterested in at the time but now loves more than life itself). Books are good too, never too young for a bedtime story and then suddenly you find they can read it back to you which is amazing! (I'm not talking about DS here... he's a bright kid but not that bright!)

Stacking cups, books, a bath toy, next size up clothes/pj's. Also things like bowls, plates, spoon & fork etc ready for weaning, toothbrush. You could also make a treasure basket. A few balloons as well as they quite like watching them float about.

My dd will be 5 months at Christmas. I have bought her a Lamaze fairy doll that has different textures on her dress. I have bought her something to wear (although I may have to let her wear it now and get her something the next size up, the little chunky madam!!). I have also bought her a v tech spinning top with sea creatures on it and v tech aeroplane.

I know she won't have a clue, but I couldn't not get some things PLUS my ds (5) would want to know why Father Christmas hadn't given his baby sister anything!!

Marks place. My DD is 9 months so a bit older but I'm still wondering what to get!

Her favourite toy for a few months has been the ELC Discovery Cylinder. To start with she just liked the crinkly shapes, now she can pull them (and other things) out of the cylinder… hasn't yet mastered putting them back in but I imagine that will come next!

A ride on car, your dc is far to small now, but will soon grow into it. Same with a push along toy of some description, we have one with wooden blocks in it and it has been so well used. The dc still use the bricks for building towers. A shape sorter. They also loved the door bouncer at that age. My dc was 6 months for Christmas and got a fisher price train with animals in it. They loved following it round as it went around the room.

Mine was this age last year and he also got a jumperoo as well as:

Stacking cups
Board books
Sophie giraffe
Bath toys
Maracas and jingle stick
Some soft animal skittles
Shape sorter

Over the year he has played with and still plays with them all
