Ds1 is 9 and this year has no idea what he would like for Christmas from us and neither do I.
He loves Lego but has enough Lego to start his own Lego Land. Over the last couple of years he has saved birthday money etc and had his own kindle and laptop.
Loves Minecraft and technical stuff. Not very sporty.
I really have no idea what we could get him as a "main" present and would be very grateful for any ideas. Thank you.

My Lego loving ds (9)
Is getting hobbit Lego
In his stocking - new wimpy kid book, match attax, Harry potter mug , chocolate coins , ds game, Percy Jackson DVD

fuzzpig · 16/11/2013 21:41

He might have loads of lego (I'd dispute the idea that there is such thing as 'too much' :o) but does he have mine craft lego :o

Or what about construction stuff like meccano, knex etc?

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 16/11/2013 21:42

Was going to suggest lego. If that's out I'm stuck too sorry. Unless you get him a couple of small things and buy him something like going to Splash Landings at Alton Towers or the Space Centre in Leicester.

does he already have a proper paid-for minecraft account?

um, a bike?

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 16/11/2013 21:47

I didn't realise there was such a thing as too much lego either fuzz Smile.

My DS has got his eye on this for his lego city collection.

youarewinning · 16/11/2013 21:47

I have a DS - same age, Lego and Minecraft mad and also not sporty!

I'm getting him this from Smyths.

He also keeps talking about hex bugs and there's loads of places that have offers on it ATM.

MisForMumNotMaid · 16/11/2013 21:47

My DS1 is just 10. He's had a shed for Birthday/ Christmas (very very small bedroom) a tool box and we're going to get some more real tools. He uses them under close supervision (he's Autistic and dyspraxic) but its good learning basic carpentry skills.

He's into renovating dolls houses (a little unusual I realise) and so also is getting little pots of paint, brushes etc.

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 16/11/2013 21:49

From the stocking fillers thread he's got a vans wallet, plague disclosing tablets, led finger lights, bamboo puzzle, led bike lights.

wizzler · 16/11/2013 21:51

Oh yes that John Adams set looks great. DS has something similar - cheaper than that though. He's had it for years and loves it.

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 16/11/2013 21:55

DS had this set last year and still plays with it. DD is itching to get hold of it Smile

Notmorelego · 16/11/2013 21:57

Thanks for all the ideas. My mum's getting him hex bugs. Maybe you're right and you can never have enough Lego ... he had technics and a mind storms robot we found cheap on eBay already. Maybe Lego Architecture would be a new avenue ...
Has a full minecraft account but not sure about minecraft Lego.

Telescope or microscope? And some books or things to go with it?

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 16/11/2013 21:57

do your lego loving boys have a tablet or games console thing?

DS1 is 10 in April and we are tempted but dithering.

wizzler · 16/11/2013 22:00

DS has had a lot of fun with the spyware stuff... he has lazer things that go off when someone breaks the beam, and a lie detector machine ...

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/11/2013 22:01

Yes to the hot wires set DS got it for his birthday and loves it. We've made an fm radio, a hovering fan, and a burglar (well little sister) alarm for his room. It's great

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 16/11/2013 22:02

never we aren't going down the electronics route until we really have to. DS is happy with lego and gets "console rage" when made to stop playing on his 3ds. It was a very kind present from a relative, but I really wish they'd checked with us first...

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 16/11/2013 22:04

JJJ - DS1 does as well with the wii which is what is making us hesitaate

fuzzpig · 16/11/2013 22:05

:o at little sister alarm!

AndiPandi · 16/11/2013 22:05

9 yr old Lego & minecraft loving DS here and I have got him the Minecraft lego village set, some individual lego pieces in various shades of pink (so he can make some minecraft pigs and enderman creatures) a box of basic lego bricks (because despite having squillions of lego he says he never has enough plain bricks), a minecraft novel & annual, a minecraft redstone bedside lamp (which I know he will be mega excited about)

youarewinning · 16/11/2013 22:06

never my DS has an iPad. He loves it but is limited to time when gaming. I have a free timer app that runs whilst he's playing and goes off when his hour is up.
The time he does educational stuff, homework etc on it is not limited and doesn't count towards his hour.
