Help! DS wants the original skylanders game - do I need to buy the characters too!?

DS has asked for skylanders swap force for xmas - all fine and within budget so have bought it.

He has just written his letter for the big man and added that he also wants Spyros Adventure (he already has Skylanders Giants) I have no idea if I can just buy the game (about £15 on ebay) or whether I have to buy new skylanders figures too? Can you use the giants and swap force characters on the Spyros adventure game?!! Will the game work if he only has swap force and giants characters? Do I need another portal too?!!!

Please help me! I am clueless about fecking skylanders! Surely one of you has a helpful child who knows the answers to such things!?? DS is only 5 so just waffles on senselessly about the characters and I have no idea what he is on about

no you cant use the newer figures in the older games as the figures/characters hadnt been invented then. You can use the spyros adventure and giants characters in the swap force game though i.e. they are backwards compatible. If you get the Spyros game then you could only use the spyros adventure figures with it so would have to buy some new ones

You can use the giant figures which are reposes if the originals though (eg slam bam),not sure if the swapforce reposes of the original spyro figures can be used though!too confusing!!!

Thanks ilovepowerhoop that is very bad news indeed! The figures are so expensive that I just don't want to start yet another massive collection of them. Will give him the giants game and prep him for disappointment with the 'father christmas can't give children everything on their list' chat.

Annoyingly he also added a furby boom to his list when he had previously asked for a furby party rocker (which I have already bought!) I said that Furby Booms were a load of rubbish and party rockers were much cooler. I also told him Harry Styles was getting a Party Rocker for Christmas and he promptly amended his letter

x-posted rosvita - it is incredibly confusing. There should be a parents guide to this stuff. I just glaze over when he starts waffling on about shroom boom and swarm.

you can pick up the old characters (used) for a few pound each in the likes of GAME and CEX.
