Ours goes up on the second weekend in December normally, although this year I may put it up at the beginning of December as I can barely wait.

OP posts:
HotCrossPun · 22/11/2013 12:49

Ours was put up last week. I don't have any set date, we normally just put it up when the Christmas adverts start coming on tv Grin

ShinyBauble · 22/11/2013 12:56

Sunday 1st December.

KringleCandleLover · 22/11/2013 13:06

How rude of me. I was practising putting lines thru words on this fucking blackberry..... I do apologise

KringleCandleLover · 22/11/2013 13:09

I'd have mine up already but DH miserable fucker won't have any of it. Pfft.

1 December in my house.

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 22/11/2013 13:16

I grew up in Hungary where we put the trees up on Christmas Eve, during the day, so I could never cope with the 1st December!

DS3 and DS4 have their birthdays on the 5th & 14th so depending on what day of the week these fall on and whether we they have a birthday party at home we tend to do the tree on the Sunday between their birthdays or maybe the closest Sunday after the 14th.

this year we haven't decided yet, but DS3 is having a joint party at his friends and DS4's will be done in January so probably the 8th.

Pantah630 · 22/11/2013 13:28

Christmas Eve, then down before DS birthday on NYE.

ArbitraryUsername · 22/11/2013 14:55

There are a couple of flats s on the main road round the corner from me that've had their decorations up for at least a week. They must surely be fed up by halfway through December.

We'll probably put ours up on the 13th or 14th, because I'm not doing it mid-week.

ILikeToClean · 22/11/2013 17:53

First weekend in December. Me and DDs go out for the day whilst DH does it all as he's really anal about it and gets grumpy if we try and help so we leave him to it, come back and it's all looking beautiful! Bit worried this year as we have a 10 month old pup so not sure if he'll touch it, we normally have 2 trees, one in the lounge and one in the dining room/extension but that's where pup sleeps so no tree in there this year! DH does a fab job, looks like something out of a magazine but woe betide anyone who touches it! Then the day after Boxing Day we go out again and he takes it all down!! It's his "thing" and as I do everything else I'm happy to let him get on with it!

MmmmWhiteWine · 22/11/2013 18:35

Ours will go up on either the 1st, if the DDs get their way, or the 8th, if I get mine! It's always a Sunday thing to me. And we always take ours down as soon as NY is over with as I jst want to get back to normal by then. Christmas decorations after NY always seem a bit sad....

I love my Christmas lights & candles. They brighten up the depths of winter. Couldn't bear to wait til Xmas eve to put them up!

Christmas decorations after NY always seem a bit sad

You see I think a house looks even sadder in the cold grey january light, stripped of its splendour...

MmmmWhiteWine · 22/11/2013 18:50

Elf, I do know what you mean. Everything seems a bit bare afterwards. But trees and decorations left up too long just make me feel a bit melancholy. Although that might just be New Year which I hate just as much as I love Christmas!

clam · 22/11/2013 19:01

I have no idea - ds (17) has taken over! All he's lacking is a clipboard and a "Creative Director" badge. I pointed this out last week, as a joke, but he looked interested in the idea!

He's been getting more and more dictatorial with each year that passes. Last year, dd and I were terrified in case we put a bauble in the wrong place. Dh has long since withdrawn from the whole shebang. He comes in at the end with wine and says "that looks lovely."

FortyFacedFuckers · 22/11/2013 19:04

Anytime between the 1st of December and the 17th depending on how Christmassy/organised I am. Think it will definitely be the start of December this year.

MegBusset · 22/11/2013 19:45

First weekend in December. Normally take them down on New Year's Day.

MrsPear · 22/11/2013 21:16

I have decided to do it in stages this year. The 30th November when the boys are asleep I will change the cushions, put up the garland and wreath and take out ds1 advent truck and fill. I was thinking the tree and nick naks when school breaks up (13th) and then the nativity week after that. It is all due to ds2 who is only one.

MrsPear · 22/11/2013 21:16

All put away the second of January.

Taffeta · 22/11/2013 21:19

14 Dec. I would like it gone before NY but DH insists it stays until 3/4 Jan.

Lucylouby · 22/11/2013 21:23

I would normally put ours up during the second weekend in December, so normally around the 10th, depending on how the days fall. However this yer we are in the middle of moving house, hoping to be moved before Christmas so I don't know what to do. Should I put them up early and move them (extra work) or wait till we move, then put them up. But if I don't put them up as usual and then we don't get moved before Christmas I will feel cheated as I won't have all my lovely decorations out for as long. I don't know what to do. If only the house buying process wasn't so complicated and long winded.

Kyrptonite · 22/11/2013 21:24

Ours is going up tomorrow as it's our last weekend with dsd until mid December and I don't want to leave her out. So tomorrow it's letters to Santa, tree and elf!

Areyoumymummysnet · 22/11/2013 21:31

when i can be arsed/the lounge isn't such fucking tip.The kids are used to my histrionics of "If you don't help me tidy this sty up there will BE no Christmas." My worst year ever (when i thought marriage was over) it went up Christmas eve and down on new years' day.Sad dm and df never put theirs up till the weekend before, as a kid i wanted it up weeks before.

ILikeToClean · 22/11/2013 21:34

Clam - your DS is getting like my DH! He definitely notices if a bauble has been moved! Grin

starlight36 · 22/11/2013 22:25

Used to be the first weekend in December but now we have DD with a birthday in early December so we wait until mid-Dec to allow a break between birthday and Christmas celebrations. This was actually my idea but bring a big Christmas fan I have complete tree envy until ours is finally upSmile

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 23/11/2013 10:44

I'm going to brag now.
I have almost completed my quilted patchwork tree mat -it's made of hexagons and entirely hand sewn.
I can't wait to use it!

PottyLotty · 23/11/2013 13:46

Mines goes up the first day of school holidays and comes down last day of school holidays :-)

princesscupcakemummyb · 23/11/2013 14:25

around the 5th-10th of december
