Received an email trying to flog me these crackers today...

www.thornbackandpeel.co.uk/Default.aspx

I should never have signed up to the email list. Each cracker contains a cotton handkerchief.

Where's the fun in that? Getting cheap tat for the "surprise" element is much more fun than everyone getting a cotton hanky. Unless you all have bad co,ds over Christmas or something Grin

Housesellerihope · 13/11/2013 18:15

Colds not co,ods! Dammit.

LynetteScavo · 13/11/2013 18:16

I like really cheap crackers....like we had in the 70's before posh crackers became mainstream.

But MIL disproves, and would rather have supermarket "luxury" ones......I might just get these crackers to spite her, then sit back and smirk as they go unappreciated my her and her DH.
(can you tell I'm not looking forward to Christmas lunch?)

Disclaimer - MIL is nice, but I'm peeved DH seems to think she does a better Christmas diner than me. He too likes supermarket "luxury" crackers over the cheapo ones, it seems.

southeastastra · 13/11/2013 18:17

all i want from a cracker is nail clippers and tiny screwdrivers

LynetteScavo · 13/11/2013 18:21

And MIL never puts money in the pudding.....

wildly digresses

Guitargirl · 13/11/2013 18:24

Fortnum and Masons do crackers the like of which I have never seen. I quite like going for a gawp (and see if I can spot anyone actually buying them).

LynetteScavo · 13/11/2013 18:27

I just want one of those curl up fish things......

Retropear · 13/11/2013 19:09

The M&S crackers I just bought have fab gifts for kids in this year.

HyvaPaiva · 13/11/2013 19:12

These are my fantasy crackers. Relatively good value, in fact Grin

Isildur · 13/11/2013 19:16

I'm going retro, and looking for the really cheap market-stall type ones.

One year when we were small, a marble flew out of one and, unbeknownst to us, landed in the pile of stuffing on my father's dinner plate.

The lesson there is don't pull the crackers around uncovered food,, unless you actively want to risk someone choking to death.

Handkerchiefs would be rather less deadly, I'd have thought.

Isildur · 13/11/2013 19:19

I'd love to know what's in these

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/11/2013 19:19

John Lewis have Nails Inc ones (six different nail polishes)

I can just imagine 14yo DS with a face like a well skelped arse at that.

I'm hankering after the Hotel Chocolat ones too Grin

RobinSparkles · 13/11/2013 19:19

Love those Hyva! I'd want them all though, I wouldn't give anybody else one.

marriedinwhiteisback · 13/11/2013 19:25

Never more than a fiver box. All depends what's on special offer after Xmas. I have never paid the full price for a box of crackers.

DrivingToDistraction · 13/11/2013 19:28

They're all crap, except I once got a set of mini screwdrivers and I used them loads of times! Got a £4.99 box from Aldi this year - they all have wind-up penguins in so you can race them after dinner. Thought 2-y-o DS would get a kick out of them and it's better than trying to stop him eating a small plastic spinning top.

reup · 13/11/2013 19:42

Retropear which m&s ones did you get?

I got a DIY set last year and got an miniature jack Daniels for my husband and he put tweezers in mine. So not bothering with that again!!

2kidsintow · 13/11/2013 20:11

I have the £6 ones from Tesco, with the wind up figures so that the DDs can race them across the table on Christmas day. :) Happy with that.

Elsiequadrille · 13/11/2013 21:47

We're filling our own crackers this year, but not making.

Have you seen the Fortnum and Mason crackers. Now those are luxury!

Elsiequadrille · 13/11/2013 21:49

Those hankies are lovely, dueanamechange.

hermioneweasley · 14/11/2013 09:08

The fortnums ones look rawther naice!

BornToFolk · 14/11/2013 09:20

I'm still hankering after indoor firework crackers like we used to have when we were kids. You don't seem to be able to get them anymore (not surprising really, they were probably horrible dangerous!)

MrsDoomsPatterson · 14/11/2013 09:33

I want some Tom Smith crackers made of crepe paper with gold foil & cheap tat inside - That's the real Christmas!

RachelBerry · 14/11/2013 13:34

I have ordered these ones from Fortnum and Mason for DD www.fortnumandmason.com/showproduct.aspx?ProductID=10387&SEName=childrens-christmas-crackers

You get a finger puppet inside each one and she's getting a puppet theatre for Christmas so it will keep it going over dinner Smile

Barbeasty · 14/11/2013 16:19

BornToFolk get some of these indoor fireworks or the cheaper packs they do, and put them in fill your own crackers.

We used to get a firework and a Thornton's chocolate in ours.
