Elf on the shelf - is it scary?

I've been thinking about doing elf on the shelf with DS, who is almost 4. But I have vague memories of being terrified at the idea of toys moving around when I was asleep as a child. Do kids not find it a bit spooky?

Kind of but we tell DS that Adam (our EOAS) is here to look after him not to watch him iyswim? Adam doesn't do something every night either. Just random nights here and there.

Would he find toy story scary? Same thing really... my ds caht wait for his elf to arrive, he is 3 and doesn't see it as scary at all... just very exciting, I bought him the dvd that tells a story of the elfs job which helped him understand x

No not scary but remember he is watching YOU TOO
