Hope no-one minds me posting here but thought post would get more traffic here and after all this in relation to dd's Xmas present this year. Really trivial issue but I am starting dd's sf collection and have bought dd a big sf house for her birthday/Xmas and a hamster family to go with it.I already have an old small house which was mine when I was little but bought the bigger one as realised it was a bit on the small side.Don't want to give it away or anything as hope to build up her collection but what animals should I get to go in it?was hoping to get hamster grandparents to live in the little house but they don't exist.I could just buy a whole new different family complete with grandparents but can't return the hamsters.thanks in advance-pretty new to the whole sf (think as a kid I just had odd figures/random furniture from car boots).

DD has several different families. Some of the families are mixed animals - as she has had the odd baby set, or ones that come with various other sets. She has always been happy to have a selection.

Ok thank you for sharing your dd's experience of sylvanians.I think I must have OCD to a certain extent-I think every house should have a toilet, bed for each animal etc etc!

Why not save the small house for another time? She'll be excited about having one for Xmas. Or if you wanted to give her both just get some other animals for the other house, there's lots of different SF creatures. I built up a whole village with a few houses and a few shops over a few years as a child and had everything from frogs to bears to cats there. I don't think they did hamsters when I was younger though.

My dd has dogs, hedgehogs, rabbits, Persian cats, a mouse, a panda, and a few others I can't remember. She also has a cow which has an ice cream cart and some little babies which came separately from families. She loves them and plays with them often.

Thanks ladies.perhaps I'll keep the small house in the loft for another time then-don't want to overwhelm/spoil her.i just find it hard with her birthday so close to christmas it seems I have to wait a whole year to buy her any new toys!I've been looking and have come across newborn sets which have parents and one baby so thinking perhaps one of those sets for the smaller house.perhaps I sound a bit silly crazy but I like each house to be as it 'should be' ie each house needs a fridge, sink, toilet, and chair and bed for each figure.

My DD had the Regency Hotel and an assortment of families.
Some of the animal babies were in single packs.
The other families just adopted them Grin

One room in the Hotel was a baby SF nursery.

She'll love them, she'll be thrilled.

(But they are addictive Grin )

The hotel was ridiculously cheap last year in Tescos. About £35-40. Compared to £100+ DD got twitch some saved up money! Mind it needed a lot of furniture to fill it.

My dds have a huge selection of SF, some of it is 20 years old, other sets are new. We have probably about 100 animals, some from sets and other random ones who seem to have no other family members. Loads of furniture bits, kitchen, allotment, bathrooms, bedrooms with bunk beds, ice cream van, shoe shop, canal boat, hot air balloon and hotel! And this year, dd2 has asked for the bloody windmill (which makes me nearly cry, I was looking forward to getting rid of the lot of it!) Ime, they get the enjoyment out of setting it all up more than the actual playing, so I would make sure you have a few of the sets as well as your animals.
