Looking for themes for a Christmas night for a group of friends bought together in some way by our children. There is about 15 of us. We have had a get together every year for about 16 years always hosted at my house...we have eaten food from every country , or so it seems, had murder mysteries, I'm a celebrity bug eating fests, James Bond nights, posh nosh etc and now I am running dry on the ideas front!! I did have a vague yen to do a mrs and mrs party's somehow but am floundering somewhat with how. Any ideas must not involve serious outlay on costumes etc, am willing to ditch Mrs and mrs in favour of any of you creative thoughts! One thing...not commonwealth themed as that is next years!

What about a retro theme from when you all met 15 years ago, have food that was all the rage from then, music along same lines and outfits should be pretty easy.

Is your Mrs & Mrs theme like a quiz and you have to answer questions about each other? You could make a game show sort of style and ask someone (a husband or neighbor) to be the cheesy host an ask the questions.

Or just have a really nice christmas do with no theme and lots of yummy food/drinks.

thanks cravingcake....mrs and mrs was going to be along the lines of how much do we know about each other but the problem with that is setting it all up then someone cant make it at the last minute...we have GOT to have a theme...I was told this afternoon that everyone is waiting with baited breath....sooooo no pressure there then!

You could do the questions so they were more general, or easy to take out if someone cant make it, probably more like a pub quiz. Along the lines of 'who has worked at xyz for 7 years' and 'who had the blondest hair when their baby was born' or 'who would have named their first child ... had they been a girl'.

Or pirates & princeses theme (very popular with young kids) theres loads of stuff in the shops at the moment.

Or Song Titles, fancy dress as a title of a song - can make it more specific from a certain era.

Or 'when i grow up...' I did this for a birthday - everyone had to come as what they wanted to be when they were young - we had James Bond, circus performer, air hostess, footballers, cowboy, lounge singer and loads more.

I'll try to think of some more.

I'm trying to think of a mums' party that I went to years ago. We dressed up in the 'uniform' of our local infants' school and played games that involved maths and reading I remember. We also did pass the parcel and other party games that 5 year olds played. For our food we had to line up sensibly like at school and all the food was children's food. Drink was vodka but mixed with orange or black currant squash to look the part! Sounds quite pathetic now but we had a right laugh and behaved like abominable 5 year old girls!

Race nights are always great fun for all ages. The DVDs are easily bought from places like ebay

You could all dress up for Ascot say -or a retro night at the dogs with sheepskin coats and wellies

I like the childrens party idea Fanny .

You could theme it on a letter and and number.

FeeCs Christmas bash brought to you by the Letter T and the number 3.

Fancy dress can be what you make it (starts with whatever letter you choose) and likewise with the food. (S is good for lots of food options). You can then have a quiz on your theme.

ineedanexcuse..race nights are indeed great fun...we did one a couple of years back with a DVD with silly races on it? like shhep racing and cheese rolling. it was hilarious and I think I came last in the gambling with fake money!
wondering if Mrs and mrs would work by having some kind of quick knockout round during the meal...maybe a quickfire question about your neighbour wittleing them down to three teams of two...then the three question format to each couple...the paddle round (not sure how I do the divider bit so they cant see) then ending up with one couple winning...OR I am liking the letter and number idea!!
argh decisions decisions!!

I'm doing my son a casino night for his birthday. Going to have a black jack table, roulette, prize bingo, etc. going to decorate the house and have themed food. I'm going to get them all to dress up in black tie. Something like that?
