Tesco vouchers - what do you do?

Looking for some ideas, haven't got very much (£50) but the x2 boost for toys/food isn't inspiring me.

In the past I've exchanged for Pizza Express or similar vouchers which are good value, but we're slightly struggling financially so exchanging vouchers for something we wouldn't do anyway feels odd.

Get angry with the fact that none of the deals seem to work very well (that's what I do anyway)
I noticed the boost includes food (but probably not all) and wine this year so am thinking of just doing that

Tobagostreet · 10/11/2013 07:10

Why does it feel odd?

If you're struggling financially, then even more reason for you to exchange at least £10 of them for £40 of Pizza Express vouchers and have a well deserved treat. Thanks

StealthPolarBear · 10/11/2013 07:12

so when you have the vouchers (assume they take about 3 weeks to come through) - can you use them in December?
Do they just pay for food, and you pay or drink?
Can you use them on Friday and Saturday nights?

Tobagostreet · 10/11/2013 07:15

Oh, and in answer to your question, the canny Scot comes out in me every time, and I can never face getting only face value or double value on my vouchers. I only ever use them for places I can get 4x the value.

(Used £40 of Pizza Express vouchers last night to treat the family Grin. Even easier to use them now that you immediately get emailed the codes for redemption and can just tell the server the code number! No faffing about waiting for paper vouchers to be delivered!)

pebblepots · 10/11/2013 07:16

Yes you can use them fri & sat nights. They cover food but not drinks

Tobagostreet · 10/11/2013 07:22

Hey Stealth, some vouchers just get emailed immediately to you.

There are different T&Cs for each restaurant, and even for different branches (usually more restrictive in London Hmm). So for example in Pizza Express, you can used the vouchers any day of the week (I've never seen Fri/Sat restrictions on any restaurant voucher I've had). You can't redeem them between the 14th - 31st December (except busy London ones where all of Dec is blocked out).
They are however, valid for 6 months, so lots of time to use.

StealthPolarBear · 10/11/2013 07:22

thank you, that helps, and good to know they get emailed. So you can decide to use them on the day?
Every time I've tried to use Tesco voichers in the past there always seems to have been a catch (sure last tiem you couldn't us them in December)

Splatt34 · 10/11/2013 07:51

Ours often go on pizza express vouchers but have also used them for train tickets and days out.

Are you after using them for present? How about magazine subscriptions?

Tobagostreet · 10/11/2013 08:09

Yup - just decide to use them on the day Grin.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 10/11/2013 08:41

Tobago I don't know, just feel I should be using them to reduce our general shopping bills. But using £10 for £40 restaurant voucher does make a lot of sense!

Magazine subscription a good idea too - will look at that now.

MadeOfStarDust · 10/11/2013 08:58

We get about £200 a year (credit card + on line shopping etc and use them for loads of stuff - Cineworld vouchers/Ask vouchers/magazine subscription/double up for toys/Drayton Manor tickets - loads of days out and meals out ....

In the past I got Year1 of an OU degree with them, I exchanged for airmiles when you didn't have to pay any taxes, had a weekend in London every so often..

superbagpuss · 10/11/2013 09:04

I have always loved to travel so they get turned into avios points - used to be air miles - so we can have a holiday after a couple of years or a weekend away or something

NorthernShores · 10/11/2013 09:07

Longleat at Christmas is lovely.

AtticusMcPlatypus · 10/11/2013 09:07

In previous years I have got well over £100 in Clubcard vouchersdon't have a credit card with Tesco, so must have spent shitloads and used to use them against my big Crimbo shop. I've started shopping at Aldi now so I only had £85 this year. Last night I used £28 for clothing online, got £70 worth for this plus £4.55 in cash. Combined it with the £10 off if you spend £50. This bought DH some clothes for Xmas, a onesie for DS, a couple of stocking fillers and a new handbag for me. The rest I changed last week (£56) and got a Tassimo machine, some cushions and loads of half price H&B gift sets for pressies. They have paid for the majority of my present shopping this year. I am seriously skint so have tried to be as creative as possible with discounts, points on loyalty cards and trading in in Amazon.

fuzzpig · 10/11/2013 09:19

I'm new to clubcard vouchers this year but I was under the impression they've changed it (compared to previous years when I've seen it advertised) so this year you can only double up rather than quadruple? Or is the 4x still valid on restaurants etc this Xmas?

BornOfFrustration · 10/11/2013 09:21

I exchanged mine and bought playmobil in the half price toy sale.

one year when we were really skint, i used our vouchers and just spent them in store on the christmas food shop which really helped, and last year, i doubled them up and got both the dc's main xmas presents.

we don't have much in the way of vouchers this year as mainly shop in lidl and aldi these days so i guess the saving manifests itself in the lower shopping bill each week.

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 10/11/2013 09:33

We use for a couple of euro tunnel crossings a year in the May and October half terms.

Had lots left this year so have used the double boost on electricals to get dd's main Xmas present of an iPod nano and speaker docking station. Didn't have to add any cash so a big help with Xmas funds.

Get lots of vouchers as we use tesco for the main shop and use the tesco credit card for all other spends (pay off in full each month)

lade · 10/11/2013 10:42

I only had £15 in points, but used the double up thing to buy Dd1 pictionary for Christmas, and DD2 a present for her birthday.

We always buy the DDs a board game for Christmas (which we'll play over Christmas), so pictionary reduced to £18 and free on club card points was a bit of a bargain.

I agree that it's better value if you look at the partners, but there wasn't anything I'd naturally use, so it would be spending for the sake of it, iykwim!

fuzzpig · 10/11/2013 13:02

Ah ignore my earlier post, have an email from tesco which says the 4x points on restaurants is still happening. So we could get around £90 yay.

If we got all our vouchers quadrupled to one restaurant chain, would that mean we'd have to use them all in one visit? Wondering if it might be better to split them and save for a couple of nice dates with DH in the new year rather than blowing them all on one family meal (which normally only happens around Xmas, and it seems you can't use them in December anyway...)

BillStickersIsInnocent · 10/11/2013 15:20

Ooh board games, that's a good idea.

OP posts:
Tobagostreet · 10/11/2013 16:04

Hi Fuzzpig, your restaurant vouchers will arrive in £10 and £20 denominations, so you're free to use them across different dates.

lateSeptember1964 · 10/11/2013 16:19

I wait for Goldsmiths to offer 4 x times their value. I usually buy watches or earrings.

fuzzpig · 10/11/2013 16:24

That's great Tobago thanks. :)
