anyone with older children who do the elf?

My DD is 10yrs old and saw me looking at elf ideas and elves for my grandson and decided she wanted one to visit too (first time).
I got the elf, got some ideas was just wondering who else does it for older ones and how they react etc and any other ideas welcome too, thank you x

It would be good for a laugh. Elf in the cornflakes box in the morning, clutching a bottle of wine for example.

I'd think carefully. We've been doing it since dds we 2&4. They are now 8&6 and this will be the last year as they totally believe in Santa but I'm pretty sure they're going to start questioning toy elves coming alive! so this year they will come and stay forever as a gift from Santa. (I have two been bag style elves). My dds have loved them though!

If your dd believes in Santa then I wouldn't do it as a 10 year old will question everything! If its just for fun and she knows its you setting up their antics, then yes it'll be fine.

I thought last year would be her last year 'believing' she seems to kind of believe this year but has spoke of friends who don't believe. I want to make her remaining year/s as fun as possible , all she talks about at the moment is what elf might visit her and do with her x

Does it matter if they know it's you? I did it for the first time last year - girls were 8 & 6. They are already talking about the elf coming again. I have 2 boys (14 & 12) last year. Now obviously they knew it was me, but they still joined in the fun.

Well just sat an done the list of stuff elf is gonna get up to, just need to print off hello and goodbye letters now.

I don't think you're ever too old for an elf! There's a cute, not babyish, one from www.theelfcompany.com. I think I get as excited as the children and if she does clue that it's you she might just appreciate the effort you're putting in! My kids favourite was when our elf out his head through the cereal box and pretended to be Pop! x

We did the Elf on the Shelf last year, my DC are now 4 and 6 and can't wait for the elf to return this year. They still talk about all the things he got up to last year. I would still do it for a ten year old. Like others have mentioned it can get up to some quite funny things and even if she doesn't believe in it all it can just be funny and something she'll probably still talk about in years to come. I took our elf out last year, hid him in my coat and placed him by the children's magazines in the supermarket, my children were looking at the magazines and suddenly saw the elf. The giggles were fantastic!

I intend to carry on doing it forever, it's cute and fun. Our elf brings the Xmas stuff slowly over December as well as getting up to silly things.

In some ways I think it'll be more fun when they're older as we can take it in turns with the silly things the elf gets up, to surprise the rest of us.
