I like to put a Christmas story into the kids Christmas Eve hamper which we can read all snuggled up before they go to sleep. Looking for inspiration this year as in the past we have bought the likes of The Grinch, A Night Before Christmas, Kipper's Christmas Eve etc. Something not too long which can be read in one sitting would be good.

The new version of the nativity story (by M Eliot) looks really nice

fuzzpig · 08/11/2013 15:50

Or there's lots of versions of the nutcracker?

mychildrenarebarmy · 08/11/2013 15:59

Ha ha we've had Father Christmas needs a wee and Father Christmas comes up trumps!

Not exactly christmas classics but very enjoyable.

There's also the Santa is coming to...books, they've done them for most places now I think.

I like Angel Mae by Shirley Hughes, but it's only available second-hand at the moment.

exexpat · 08/11/2013 17:57

Oh yes, just saw disneyaddict mentioned The Jolly Christmas Postman - perfect if you haven't already got it.

We also have a pop-up version of the Nutcracker that has been popular for years, but it is also out-of-print.

MadeOfStarDust · 08/11/2013 18:12

Mimi mouse's Christmas is a lovely Christmas story - ours are 11 and 12 now - but still want us to read it at Christmas..

aintnothinbutagstring · 08/11/2013 19:32

We've got The Christmas Eve Ghost by Shirley Hughes, love a bit of Shirley! Got the Jolly Christmas Postman and The Mousehole Cat is a bit christmassy at the end.

Maraki · 08/11/2013 20:10

We got 'Skinny Finny and Super Spy Wobblebottom'! It is hilarious, we started reading already, even though its Nov, as my DD can't get enough of it :-)

TeaAndCakeOrDeath · 08/11/2013 20:25

You can get personalised ones - 'your childs name' saves Christmas at penwizard

wamabama · 08/11/2013 20:36

Laura's Christmas star is beautiful.

roslet · 08/11/2013 21:03

Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present by John Burningham is one of my favourites.

steeking · 08/11/2013 21:08

"Twas the night before Christmas" I don't know who wrote it but it was a national institution in our house when i was growing up.
ds's still insist on me reading it each year and one is a teenager !

insanityscratching · 08/11/2013 22:18

I'm going to buy A Guinea Pig Nativity even if dd is ten because she will love the cute photos

Pogosticks · 09/11/2013 11:12

BeaLola · 09/11/2013 12:37

My Ds loves the Polar Express.

Also last year M&S did a book about a reindeer that you could record - i bought it and gave it to my Dad to do and he gave it to my son as a gift on Christmas day..... We all love it and my son likes listening to it always.
