Kindle Fire for a 4 year old?

Our DD will be 4 in December and we want to get her a tablet. She currently uses our laptop or desktop to play games etc on the CBeebies website. If she had a tablet we anticipate that she will use it for games, watching films and reading/listening to music when she is a little older. My DH thinks that a Kindle Fire would be suitable for this.

Has anybody any thoughts?

TIA

yep kindles are great and a lovely size for young children, my 2 pinch their nans whenever we visit!

The new ones sound like they are better for being able to adjust settings and restrict how long they play etc but you can leave reading as unlimited. If I was to get mine a tablet (which I might do for birthdays) then I would go for the kindle!

My Dd is 6.10 and has a Kindle Fire cos her father sent her one and she plays games on it. It seems OK, but I can't say I'm interested enough to look at it properly. Certainly wont be letting her read books on it as we have tens of hundreds of paper books to read at home!

Thanks for your thoughts Luggage and Solo.

I am quite old but also horrified at the idea of a 4 year old getting a kindle fire. Why would you want to encourage her playing games at this age? Buy her a bike instead.

My DS has a Nexus. It's great and he plays educational games on it as well as watching films which I've burned and copied over.

Oops, he's 4 also

ignore me!!

I understand that you can get educational stuff on the Kindle Fire too.

My DS who is 8 will be getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas and DP has suggested that we get DD1 (5) one too Hmm. I think she'd probably prefer a doll tbh Wink.
