Christmas card holders/displaying cards

this year I've decided, I've had enough of the mountains of cards falling over constantly and running out of room for them all, never being able to actually decorate the mantlepiece as it's full of cards, we tend to get a lot! Has anyone seen good christmas card holders, or how do you display them all? (or don't other people bother? I was debating just picking my favourite ones that match the rest of the colour scheme and recylcing the rest as I go along rather than covering the fireplace so that actually using it would be a fire hazzard).

Thank you dancing queen, think I'll get some nice ribbon and staple, that seems far better solution!

If you have bannisters, tie dangling ribbons from them then staple or glue cards onto the ribbons - the bannisters are decorated and it's somewhere to put the cards.

I use drawing pins to attach long washing line type strings on the picture rails and slot the cards on. That way they are up out of the way and don't interfere with other decorations.

Pin ribbons onto the tops of doors (so the pinholes don't show) and staple the cards to the ribbons.

Or

Chuck them all in a lovely large bowl left on the coffee table/sideboard.

We have a card holder that goes on the lounge door, all cards go on that regardless of who they're from a bit like this.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 06/11/2013 18:07

I have two from next that hook over the door. Any extra cards go straight in the recycling so that I don't have them cluttering up anywhere else [ blush]

TeaOneSugar · 06/11/2013 18:09

this is a nice idea

ChippyMinton · 06/11/2013 18:47

Tea, that's more or less what I do, without all the fancy bows.

Trumpton · 06/11/2013 18:57

I just push drawing pins into the top edge of the door to hold the ribbons. Also hang ribbons from the banisters and peg cards onto them .

I use string and little pegs I got some Santa pegs from Aldi. today £1.99.

Spaulding · 06/11/2013 19:40

My parents have always done a piece of string tied from one wall lamp to another. Looks good and it's cheap. Ours tend to clutter various shelves and surfaces!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 06/11/2013 19:43

I tie string to the curtain poles and between the windows and then when those are full I hang ribbons from the edges of the poles and clip the cards to them with little pegs.

oh thank you for all the lovely ideas! So I need some thick festive ribbon, pins and stapler (I'm sure we've got one somewhere) for cheap and cheerful option. Have also seen this today after I started this thread, although I'm now thinking the ribbon option would be better.

They always look so cluttered normally (and I've got my eye on lovely mantle decorations and don't want them hidden by millions of cards).
