WWYD? ds1 greatly desires an expensive (for us) gift with some terrible reviews

And now ds2 wants one as well!

It is a massive remote control monster truck. Since spotting it in the shop ds1 has talked about it non stop. We were at the point of buying it and then found it had some really mixed reviews. My instinct is not to go for it as I don't want two disappointed little boys on Christmas day (obviously) And they both couldn't have the same one any way as they work off the same frequency.

I am torn between letting ds1 have one as he is so excited about it and hoping for the best or trying to think of a way of persuading him to want something better. But what?

Any ideas?

TIA Smile

What do the reviews say is wrong with it? There is a great one you can get that can drive both ways up, so you drive it up the wall and it flips over and carries on.. There are some good ones out there.

can you find something similar with better reviews?

budget?

there are quite a few on Amazon with apparently decent reviews:

Show him the reviews.

I would buy it, let him play with it and if it's awful and doesn't work properly take it back early within the time scale. At least he won't be disappointed on Christmas morning.

Thanks for your replies!

The reviews either say that it's great but the battery runs out too quickly (eg 8 hours of charging for 20 mins of play) or it's rubbish because the battery only lasts for 10 - 15 mins ish. There were some other problems but that's the main thing that sticks in my mind.

Thanks for the link! There are a couple that look great - love the turbo-twister - I reckon both my boys would love it (and it's cheaper) but just have to somehow get them to prefer it!!

I would buy the better one and accompany it with a note from FC explaining that he had run out of the one your DS wanted and the elves didn't have time to make another. He hopes this one is alright and he chose if specially because it's DS's favourite colour, it can do stunts blah blab blah....
