Any ideas please? She's getting a laptop soon with some inheritance money (we currently just have a shared one for the house) and has a phone already. She is not at all girly and her main interests are drawing, watching sci-fi and horror films and playing the guitar. Am currently completely without ideas!

Cheers.

Drawing supplies? Sheet music for songs she could learn? Tickets to see a musician she likes?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2013 20:13

She has so many drawing supplies tbh, though can always use another sketch book!

She gets most of the music she uses online. Gig tickets could be a goer, though we tend to buy them as required tbh.

Thank you for the ideas.

I feel your pain, neither of my boys (17&19 by Christmas are coming forward with anything!)
What about a tablet like a Hudl from Tesco?

Unexpected · 05/11/2013 20:15

Fancy guitar strap? Plectrum-maker - although I admit someone gave this to my guitar-playing son and he used it about twice. Guitar bag or case if she only has a basic one? Clothes - girly or not, she has to wear something! Nice shower gel/hair stuff? Art books - not how to draw, but books with works from famous illustrators?

coppertop · 05/11/2013 20:15

A graphics tablet to use with the laptop? Something like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Wacom-Bamboo-Pen-Graphics-Tablet/dp/B002Q4U4AE/ref=tag_stp_s2_edpp_url

Or some design software?

Tickets to one of the sci-fi conventions?

VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2013 20:15

A manga art book?
Origami kit
A stop motion animation kit

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2013 20:16

I have no idea what a Hudl is and little idea what a tablet is, tbh. If she's getting a laptop and has a phone, is there a reason why she'd need one?

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2013 20:18

stop motion

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2013 20:19

Argh - we are getting v technical for this Luddite here! What IS a graphics tablet please? Or indeed an animation kit?

She's had origami stuff in the past, but has grown out of it tbh. Not into Manga. Guitar strap is actually a brilliant idea, so will deffo get that.

Thank you all.

Clothes.

Money or gift voucher taped to a novelty box of Christmas sweets and wrapped up.

Books.

I have teen boys - struggling with ideas for them if I'm honest.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2013 20:19

Crossed posts, Viva. Thank you.

How about some classic sci fi novels?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2013 20:21

She has precisely no interest in clothes. Even if we bought exact duplicates of the few things she has/wants, they'd be unwanted/appreciated. She is like dp - 3 pairs of jeans and a couple of t-shirts and jumpers is (allegedly) sufficient for anything.

Classic sci-fi novels is a brilliant suggestion, but she claims to hate reading. She likes the Game of Thrones series and I bought her book one at her request (first book she's wanted in goodness knows how long!) - she's read about 50 pages in a month, I think.

Do you have netflix or lovefilm? If she's getting a laptop you could pay for either of thse so she can watch stuff on it?

IamInvisible · 05/11/2013 20:26

A Hudl is like an iPad, but much cheaper and runs on Android.

We have iPads and laptops. We can watch movies, TV, play music and games on the iPad.They use them for Fb and Twitter too. I presume you can on a Hudl. I know my kids prefer their tablet to getting their laptop out. They mainly use their laptops for homework.

scratchandsniff · 05/11/2013 20:27

In the past I've bought my DN who is the same age some cinema vouchers and wagamama vouchers. She was able to plan a trip with a friend with either dinner or film all paid for.

coppertop · 05/11/2013 20:28

A graphics tablet is an electronic 'pad' that you connect to your laptop. You draw on it with the special pen and the picture appears on your computer screen.

bigwellylittlewelly · 05/11/2013 20:29

Decent cases for the new phone and the laptop? Its not cheap option and there are some amazing ones out there - or specific insurance for the phone and laptop, again not cheap but she might thank you for it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2013 20:29

She uses Twitter etc on her phone when she's not got the laptop. I have no idea what Android means either - I thought it was a little humanoid thingie.

Film thing is a good idea. We always get the dds a voucher for Starbucks or somewhere so will do that - but would like her to have something to open too.

Can you buy cinema membership cards where you are? The kind that allow x visits per month plus discounts on popcorn/drinks?

Tickets for a show/trip out (eg Rocky Horror Show + meal out + transport)

Or do what my parents did when I said I wanted nothing - and give nothing Grin

MrsOakenshield · 05/11/2013 20:30

Tate membership? Obv depends where you are. Or, if in London, V&A?

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 05/11/2013 20:30

Box set of The Big Bang Theory tv series? Sounds like her kind of show.

Tickets to go see a comedien, show or gig.

Magazine subscription.

or Art Fund card, that gets you reduced entry to lots of galleries.
