Sylvanian Families, Playmobil or other for 3yo?

Trying to think what to get DD for Christmas. She'll be 4 in March. I've had either Sylvanian Families or Playmobil suggested to me. I'm leaning towards SF as she already has a couple of small figures and likes putting them in her little dolls house. But I'm worried about the expense and all the accompanying bits being a bit fiddly for her yet. On the other hand, if she takes to it properly, I can see her playing with SF for more years than Playmobil. I had Playmobil as a child and it was one of my few neglected toys, so maybe I'm just projecting. I adored my farm animals, kept them all and gave them to her recently. She was unimpressed! Sad

Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions for toys for a nearly 4yo? She likes role-playing things but she's an only so it usually entails me or DH having to get involved. Which is fine, but I could do with more things which will occupy her on her own Blush.

Playmobil is def preferred here, though we have both. Can generally find it on offer more often and ime its far better quality. My 6 nearly 7 year old still loves it :)

Both are played with almost equally here. There's lots of sylvanian stuff in TK Maxx at the moment, if that helps?

CelticPromise · 01/11/2013 23:06

I have a boy so a bit different, but I'd say both are too old for a 3yo. My son is 4 and still a little way off the small playmobil bits. The Lego 4+ stuff is very good.

We've been collecting both playmobil and sylvanians for dd since she was 2 and my son who is 3 has loved playing with them for over a year but it def depends on whether your kids tend to put things in their mouths! sooo many teeny pieces in both. Both my kids still really love Duplo too if you fancied another suggestion

Hi, how about Littlest Pet Shop as an alternative?

fruitpastille · 01/11/2013 23:19

Play kitchen is good for role play. My dd was 4 in june and doesn't play that much with her sf stuff but they are all different.

Kyrptonite · 01/11/2013 23:19

DD has loads of sylvanians. They're all bloody naked and fuck knows what happened to the clothes.

I've gone plsymobil for Xmas!

Meandacat · 02/11/2013 01:39

Kyrptonite, LOL!
She's never been one for sticking things in her mouth that she shouldn't, so I'm not massively worried about that. Gran is getting her Lego. Will check out TK Maxx - shelves were pretty bare last time I was there but maybe they were making space for all the Christmas goodies. It's hard for me to get to one though. I live somewhere semi-rural and do lots of shopping on-line.

She's a bit to young to appreciate SF in my opinion.

I think it's personal preference, take her to Toys r Us or somewhere and see what takes her fancy. It's playmobil and Lego all the way for us, but then I do have a boy!

I'd say playmobil but then I think them sylvanians are creepy little feckers :o

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 02/11/2013 11:37

SF here

havatry · 04/11/2013 23:17

SF - they need to be old enough not to take all the clothes off as you can never get them back on - unless you have tiny tiny hands.

I'd go for playmobil at that age.

NormanTheForeman · 04/11/2013 23:19

Playmo! But I'm biased ... Wink

Littlemousewithcloggson · 04/11/2013 23:27

I'd go for playmobil definitely. My youngest is 4 and I bought sylvanian families last year, mainly because I wanted them! Like others have said they are now naked and neglected! My niece who is 6 is just getting into them in a big way and I think that's probably the right age for them.
The playmobil waterside and campervan that she got for her birthday have had hours of play and she still loves them.
I personally would save SF until she is older.
