My dc are 4&6 and im looking for a book and nativity scene to explain to them that xmas isnt just about santa and toys! Me and dh arent religious but when i was little the nativity story was what made xmas magical to me if that makea.sense?!
I have a budget of about £15 for nativity scene. Ive looked at some put they seem a bit cartoony where as id like a more traditional looking one!

I'm not sure about the book but for the scene, have you tried Phoenix trading? I used to sell it and they have a lovely range of advent calendars that make into nativity scenes:

www.phoenix-trading.co.uk/web/corp/area/shop-online/category/advent-calendars/?bid=abd241ca8880f9baba617592023574c3bcf5567d&search=false&sortorder=1&itemsperpage=12

If you contact them they'll find you a trader near you you can buy from - I think the advent calendars are £7.50.

Last year we bought a really cheap wooden one from tescos. Might be worth trying some supermarkets?

We have the Playmobil nativity set - if you Google, somewhere usually has it reduced.

Then we use free apps or printables, alongside things like second-hand copies of Enid Blyton's 'The First Christmas' book, or old Ladybird 'Baby Jesus' books.

We buy second-hand books from Amazon, there are loads.

We have the Playmobil nativity too.

For books, Jan Pienkowski's The First Christmas is visually stunning, it is all in silhouette. The text is the traditional Bible version, so maybe some bits might need explaining.

The Christmas Story by Brian Wildsmith is excellent, and there is a new version from OUP with a little nativity set to make.

For younger ones, the Usborne Touchy Feely Nativity is lovely, but your DC might be a bit old for it now.
