I have girls, have very little idea what a year 1 boy would think is cool. I know he likes trains though. Any brilliant MN ideas would be much appreciated!

I have a year 1 boy, who's just turned 6 and if I had a tender to spend on him, I would buy one of the following ...

Scooby Doo paraphernalia
Skateboard (he got given one or his birthday and loves it!)
Disney planes models £5 each
Remote control car
Power rangers figures
Ben 10 he is also really into
Torch
He is also really into board games and loves his top trumps cards too

I second the cheapo skateboard.
I found a nice remote controlled car for £5. He might like that?

Anything remote control /interactive in some way is always a winner!!

Usborne "See inside Trains" book, £3.99 from The Book People (think you can get free delivery with code AUTUMN), plus a Natural History Museum dinosaur projector torch, £6 delivered, from Amazon. My Year 1 train loving boy has both and thinks that they are fab.

Cool, will go and have a look at those. It's so much easier once you have some ideas to work from.

SunnyRandall · 31/10/2013 21:08

Lego.

ShatnersEmptyCatacomb · 31/10/2013 21:10

Hex Bugs are fun.

grapesmummy · 31/10/2013 21:13

Lego
Hexbugs
Transformers
Superheros
Power rangers
Magic set
Bop-it
Also games like guess who and operation

Another vote for lego hero factory. My boys are year 1 & year 2 and are completely obsessed. Unlike traditional lego, it has larger pieces and makes a robot-type figure which is quite substantial, and looks a good gift.

grapesmummy · 31/10/2013 21:22

Mine love hero factory too, much less breakable than other lego. Last week Tesco also had the hero factory dvds 2 for £5 I think.
