Ideally long lasting and things DS can play with in time too.

Big things we already have are -
Easel
Toy kitchen
Mini micro scooter
We have a bit of Lego
Doll and buggy

Am considering Vtech kiddizoom camera - any good?ll

Thanks for any ideas.

Wooden train set
Happyland

IHeartKingThistle · 27/10/2013 14:39

Kiddizoom are beyond rubbish IME.

The big aquadoodle mats were a hit with mine at that age.

kiwidreamer · 27/10/2013 14:50

My DD will be the same age at Christmas, here are a few of the bits she is getting...

wooden magnetic dress up dolls
wooden cookies / tray
duplo set
dress up things
books
memory card game
robofish
Blue nose friend figures and car
peppa pig set
les corelles doll
Daisy the cat - furreal

DS 5.5yrs and DD both enjoy 'taking photos' with the current Toy Story camera we have, rubbish photos but they enjoy the act and play of it not the end product... unless its adults with silly faces. DS is getting a Kiddiezoom for Xmas and I know he'll enjoy it, DD will then inherit his Toy Story one --and hopefully put an end to the squabbles--

Just to say DD got wooden magnetic dress up dolls and wooden cookie /tray thing last year (when she was 2.6 and they have both been played with pretty much every day. I would also recommend Design and Drill and Gears Gears Gears. And the Melissa and Doug wooden cupcake set.

farrowandballs · 28/10/2013 16:43

also this has amazingly good play value.

Luggage16 · 28/10/2013 19:31

ohh yes those bears! they were my daughters favourite toy for years! Duplo is another big hit (can never have too much of this! Worth getting boards and the sets with animals/people). Play kitchen has been used well, any figures (but not really dolls houses etc), brio train set, marble run (we bought my daughter the Haba one at around 3 and it gets played with loads). My son is 3 and his absolute favourite thing is his octonaut toys. they come out daily and whilst I think they are a pile of over priced tat they have actually worked out good value for money given how much play they get.

Liveinthepresent · 28/10/2013 21:13

More replies - these are great thanks - yes wooden food is looking like a good idea and I already have the bears stashed away ( bought a while ago and had forgotten!)
Liking marble run idea too but may wait til 3 rd birthday am a bit neurotic about baby DS swallowing marbles?
Anyone got Elefun ? It was recommended on here previously but wasn't sure of longevity.
Thanks all - more welcome!

Elefun often appears on the 'what was a pile of crap' toy threads IIRC

What about a memory game, I've got DD a Doc McStuffins one from Home Bargains £2 but they are at Tesco for about £4 or 24£6, the other game that DD does well in is Shopping List from Orchard Toys.

farrow so glad to hear the magnetic dolls and cookie tray were a hit with your little one, fingers crossed they are popular here too.

The duplo set of Ariel is reduced on Amazon today, if you like it move quick as the prices change randomly

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0094J3F6E/ref=nosim

Tho if you are looking for play value for your DS then maybe gender neutral is the way to go, the numbers set or construction or train are appearing reduced in all sorts of places at the moment. We have the zoo which is great, plus a polar bear / penguin zoo set, a police set, a box of bricks, the cupcake set (FAB), a base board and DD will be getting the Fire Station set for Xmas. Brilliant play value, DS 5yrs loves his big boy lego but equally loves sitting down with his sister and building zoo's and making me pretend cakes.

My Dd1 will be 2.11 at Christmas and was bought an Innotab 2 for her second bday - she is only now getting use out of it as it was a bit old for her but she has totally got it worked out now and uses it every day - perhaps that maybe an idea?

bigwellyfucker · 29/10/2013 20:11

DD1 is 3.3 but in the past six months she has been enjoying drawing and colouring. Play food and a Melissa and Doug birthday cake has been endlessly played with. We've also had the summer so a LOT of outdoor play. We wanted to get her a tipi tent for the living room this Christmas, and a vtech camera, puzzles, an alphabet Duplo set on half price from Tesco, gardening tools for the summer and a bike or scooter.

^thats not all from us I hasten to add, she has adoring family!
