I used to really want these as a child but they were out of our price range. I see they're still expensive, but I'd like to build up a set for DD who is 4 next week.

Where should I start, are they worth it, are some sets better than other, basically what would you recommend?

Thank you!

My dds loved them between about six to eleven. Always came out when friends came over to play, too. Lots of battered and broken bits but I've got quite a bit in the loft in anticipation of future grandchildren.

I've just received the ice cream van and the fox family, have stuck all the faffy little stickers on and it looks great. 11yo DS has said if DD doesn't want it he'll be happy to give it a good home although he'll have to fight me for it first!

My mum said she still has mine from when I was younger. I had the bakery.

Want the campervan but will have to wait as DD is only 3 weeks Grin

I started getting bits of it for DD when she was 4 and she still plays with it and she is Year 8 and nearly 13 yrs old.... Just don't tell her friends. Grin

My dd1 age 12 1/2 recently Garett her beloved svf collection to dd2, the grand hotel was a bit if a waste as they prefer the smaller houses to make a village. I keep catching her setting it up for dd2 to play with as she still loves it.

Ill be boxing it up for the grandchildren as I wish my mum had kept all mine. We don't do play mobile as I find it to plastiky but we have tons of schliech animals that get played with almost daily by all five kids.

Invest in good compartment boxes for the little bits tho, and babies/ people.

Amazon seem to do the best deals, prices go up and down all the time so check daily, I would recommend getting the caravan and car or the new camper van and one family ( just to see if she likes them). My dd's were not that taken by them but the farm house gets used every day for various other toys to live/play in.

Just looked at the fox family on amazon.fr, I paid €13.99 two days ago, today it's €24.99 Shock

My ds who is 8 secretly likes setting it up for little sister. DD who is 6 not that interested but dd who has just turned 3 loves them. The most annoying thing is dd got some characters for her birthday yest and they are already 'naykd'!

madmomma · 31/10/2013 08:04

I know loads of kids who love sylvanians. Yes they're fiddly and take ages to set up, but the setting up is totally part of the play value. It's when -you--the kids appreciate all the tiny detail. We built up a collection for dd1 who is now 15. She has recently given them to her little brother and sister and they are still very cherished.

Viking are those from other sellers than amazon itself ? I've found in the past prices fluctuate according to who is supplying and has availability.

VikingVagine · 31/10/2013 09:23

I"m not sure, it was with Amazon Prime, but it must have been from another seller for that kind of price difference, amazon's prices fluctuate regularly by a couple of cents, but not by 11€!

My DC love them, one of the most played with toys. We don't have any buildings, just a bicycle, a rowing boat and a few bits of furniture. My 2 much prefer the figures to the accessories anyway, though the bicycle gets played with loads.

Most of the figures we have were originally mine, so they have lasted a good 25 years Grin
