I normally have plenty of ideas for both of them, but this year I lack inspiration (and funds)

what are your pre-teen boys getting?

My 11yr old Aspie is obsessed by ironman, james bond and lego, so getting him iron man lego sets, iron man movie and the set of ian Fleming's James Bond books. Probably not much use unless your aspie is into the same things!

Dd (10) ASD is mad about Minecraft so has books, t shirts and a bag and will buy figures and probably Lego kit. She's having an ipod touch and maybe a 2ds. Tbh she likes screens and books so usually stick to items around those interests.

My friend is getting her Aspie 9 year old a lot of knights and horses and that type of stuff as he loves fantasy.

What about a bit of Warhammer stuff? You can paint them and do battles.

oh great thanks! 11yo also obsessed with screens and books. Minecraft stuff a good idea.

9yo into judo, bushcraft and making things... not quite as hard to please, but all ideas welcome!

Would you trust your 9 yo with a penknife? Mine has just started to use one and loves whittling sticks with it.

Greensleeves · 23/10/2013 17:11

We gave him his own whittling knife, firesteel and first aid kit for his 9th birthday Grin he's really good and responsible about that sort of thing and his dad and I are into bushcrafty stuff too. I'll think about other things in that area I could get him.

Try Thinkgeek.com. I basically purchased most Xmases for my own aspie DS from it. If you order early, you can choose the economy international shipping which isn't too bad. I've actually bought him a Minecraft wall sconce and a 'winter is coming' beanie this year, even though he's 19 Smile.

Amazon has also got some cool stuff eg proper space food, funny t shirts (I went outside once but the graphics weren't good), Worms merchandise...

Are they into Studio Ghibli films? Some of them are brilliant. And you can get original posters off eBay.

On bushcraft, try the SAS survival handbook here:

Handwarmers?
