About 4ish in our case.

ThePigOfHappiness · 16/10/2013 15:12

Dd is 8 and still loves barbies

DeepPurple · 16/10/2013 15:13

I was wondering the same as DD has started eyeing them up and she'll be 4 next month. I settled in a Disney version for her present.

Between about 4.8 and 4.9 yrs in my experience - long enough to be disappointed not to get one for Christmas but dismissive and never play with for 5th birthday two months later. I think it depends if they liked bigger dolls - mine didn't really play much with their dolls and still don't play much with dolls.

Just don't, take her to Build a Bear instead.

Our bears were loved, cuddled, dressed, undressed and took part in all sorts of games from 4-11+.

My 15y still sits hers on her bed.

Barbies with their unbrushable frizzy hair, sharp unlovable plastic bodies and too small and rip clothes went in the bin.

My DDs aren't rough with stuff and never part with anything, but Barbies were a total dead loss.

You simply can't do anything with them. You can't do their hair, it frizzes. A child can't change their clothes as they don't bend. They aren't cuddly. They don't stand or sit properly. They are too big for the dolls house, but too small for the pram.

They are Shit!

IME 1st child - 3, 2nd child 1 (when 1st child had one)

BUT

If it's not your child please don't buy them one unless they already have one/some. Bitter that my anti-Barbie stance was ruined by a well-meaning friend and now there are 24 of the hideous things in my house

Morgause · 16/10/2013 16:01

Never.

ohmeohmyforgotlogin · 16/10/2013 16:04

get lottie instead no tits normally proportioned, proper shoes etc

ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2013 16:14

Urgh. My DD was given about half a dozen (including the one I dubbed the Imelda Marcos Barbie which came with about a dozen pairs of shoes) - they mostly got undressed, hair tatted, as someone has said clothes are so skimpy they're hard to dress again - then languished in a drawer except occasionally played with ironically in a pretend game where one of her toy dogs was playing the part of a 'girly girl'.

She's nearly 15 and has just this week boxed them up to be disposed of! Yay, a drawer liberated! Grin

Age 4-7 here.

LostLincolnshireLass · 16/10/2013 20:01

My two have spent over an hour playing with their Barbies after dinner tonight, they are 3 and 4. I didn't want them to have one but someone bought us on for DDs 4th birthday, she loved it instantly, much to my disappointment!
