I am a bit of a loss with presents for my ds. So far we have gotten him from second hand /ebay - 2 httyour dragon books, john adams hot wires set and some ds games. He actively wants the new moshi ds game. Also a sweater from H&M sale. Will also get a small lego set or two. None of these presents are going to be a surprise or wow factor - is there anything anyone could think of that I could add to the mix? Whats cool or fun with year 4 boys?

I would be prepared to hunt for bargains so anything up to £60 ish that might come down in price [Thanks]

Hit the Argos toy sale or keep your eye out for a 3 for 2 offer that will no doubt be coming up soon?

On a budget for DSs 8th birthday we made up a hamper with nice cereal, hot chocolate, sweets, soft fruit, cupcakes etc in (DS has reasonably expensive tastes so is often thwarted by the supermarket shop Hmm) Granted this will only work if you DS likes that sort of thing but he still talks about it now
It was good as I could pop a couple of bits in every time I went shopping and by the time we made it up in a big box it looked great :)

wonderingsoul · 16/10/2013 17:59

crotch- that sounds lovely!

BeaWheesht · 16/10/2013 18:17

Ds is 7 but stunt scooters seem to be all the rage and are quite often reduced.

Also Argos have an airstorm archery set which I've got ds and it looks really cool.

Ds is also getting a metal detector.

Sainsburys usually have a half price toy sale in half term week.

Get your elbows sharpened though Wink

Thanks all some things to look up! I am eagerly waiting for sales and tesco voucher swap etc, think I need my items in basket ready to buy as soon as they go live otherwise things sell out! The sainsburys near me doesn't tend to have many toys which is a shame.

crotch I think I will def do something like that for christmas eve, would never have thought to it for a birthday but it sounds like a really lovely idea and I think my ds would appreciate the thought involved (he is funny like that!)

wfrances I hadn't heard of hudls until I started looking on the christmas section Blush he is just beginning to mention ipads so I think next year might be the optimum time - will save my tesco vouchers with that in mind next year thx

metol detector and archery sets are great ideas bea I got him a stunt scooter last year but his coordination isn't great - lets just say he is more likely to be found on the sofa identifying with reading diary of a wimpy kid.

Going to google batrooburg arena now!

battroborg is at sale for 52 at isme and woolworth

My ds(8) is getting the playmobil Future Planet:

I also got another bit to go with it. It comes in a massive box so has wow factor in terms of size. I would track it on Camelcamelcamel if interested as I only paid £36 for it.

This has been one of the best buys ever, kids have never broken anything with it, but mu OH has broken 2 christmas ornaments and smashed a picture!!

He wouldn't let the boys play it indoors but couldn't put it down himself :)

2 ideas I've seen on here - a den making kit (rucksack full of stuff like string, camouflage sheet, torch) and a spy kit (same idea but invisible ink pen, code book etc) I'm trying to decide which one to do for my 7yr old

soontobeslendergirl · 18/10/2013 00:38

or what about a Basketball Hoop or Table Football? Both surprisingly affordable if you hunt about but a "big" gift.

giraffeseatpineapples · 18/10/2013 19:55

Thanks everyone think we are going to try and get some kind of robot, had a look last night but apart from the fighting kind (which he would prob love) they seem to be for younger boys.

Jenniferalisonphillipasue - I wish my ds would sit quietly and play with a playmobile set like that . You got it for a fantastic price.

we havent room for a tabletop football, but roll up suboteo type game might work, also think den making or spy kit would go down well. Thanks!
