Make up

A favorite food hamper
A box of Coca-Cola (her favourite soft drink)
A cake decorating book
Underwear
Pyjamas
A book to read

Ive also been collecting makeup and perfume samples to make her an advent calendar so might throw in a boots voucher to buy something that she likes for that.

Some great ideas here! Would she enjoy a shopping trip with you - you agree to buy her clothes to a certain amount and then go to eat? Friend just did this with her DD.

MrsSJG · 12/10/2013 15:05

Not a major present but I've just bought and put by a light up makeup mirror I found in Boots the other day for £20. Seem a good size and decent quality. I wouldn't mind one myself..

EverythingUnderControl · 12/10/2013 21:19

This one but it was cheaper in storeSmile

dementedma · 12/10/2013 21:20

Ooh, fairy lights for bedroom

fudgelover · 12/10/2013 21:29

I bought the make up mirror last year for my daughter and my niece. They use them all the time. I liked it so much I bought one for myself too.
Would also add boots vouchers, Starbucks vouchers and a glass emery board from Champneys. They cost £10 but last for years and are so good for your nails. You could always add some nail polish as well.

MrsSJG · 12/10/2013 21:53

she already has fairy lights for her bed and has more make up than boots has Grin she also has a very very nice bracelet made by Cherry (buy from her Grin she saw into my head and made what I wanted and it's beautiful) Thank you again Cherry Grin Grin Cinema tickets sound like a brilliant idea for her as well along with the mirror

Tickets to a concert, festival tickets. Last year mine went to New York with a friend. Good jewellery or a quality handbag.

If you are near a Cineworld you can get an unlimited cinema card for £16 a month. Yes, you do pay for the year which is quite a lot but we got it for DD1 (also 17) and it is briliiant, she loves it. Because the £16 is monthly we don't notice it that much. It would make a fantastic main gift that she'd love you for all year. I don't know if other cinemas do similar but it would be worth enquiring.

DD1 also does not know what she wants and I know what you mean about it being easier when they were 6! She's into some american sitcoms so may get her Big Bang Theory season 6, Friends boxsets as she's just got into that and How I Met Your Mother. If there is any TV your DD is into you can often get DVDs of them. Or recent film releases - DD1 adored Gatsby (mainly because of Leonardo DiCaprio) so I will put that on her list too. If she's into films and hasn't seen them and you want DVD ideas, Now You See Me is brilliant and had DD1 and I enthralled from start to end and We're the Millers is very funny and she was laughing about it with friends for ages afterwards. Both good movie night films for that age.

Books she's just read the Mortal Instruments series which I believe there is one out as a film. That seems popular among her friends. For stocking fillers MUA Make Up Academy stuff was recommended a while back on mumsnet and we've found it brilliant, dirt cheap and as good as much pricier brands. They have some good eyeshadow palettes for next to nothing and some nice bright nail varnishes in mad colours.

I can't generally buy clothes for either of my DDs (14 and 17) as it's hard to get right - they each have their own style, nothing like the other! But I can generally get away with Primark fleecy pyjamas (or onesies for DD2 who seems to like the mens ones in extra small best) and top shop knickers.
