I have absolutely no clue as to what to buy my (will be) 3mo DD. Lots of people have said not to bother as she won't know the difference and will get lots off others but I'll know!

So far have come up with clothes and finger puppets.

What did you buy your little ones when they were so small?!

Things for the coming nine months, they don't stay small forever!

My DD is a late September birthday, so it's a long time from Christmas to her next birthday. Because of that, for her first Christmas we bought her toys that she would be ready for in between.

That Christmas we got her a jumperoo, which she was ready for about five weeks later, a friend bought her a sit me up cosy from ELC. We also bought sensory toys, stuff with lights, music and that require interaction. Buy some six month stuff - it'll be March before you know it.

CoolaSchmoola · 08/10/2013 02:38

There are plenty of 3 month+ toys out there too. My db and sil's first is due in a few weeks and they have recently taken a big box marked 0-1 toys from our loft.

Batbear · 08/10/2013 02:57

My DS had a black and white cuddly toy for his first Christmas (3 Mths old) he loved it and it has been carted around ever since. He is now 3 and doesn't sleep without it.

Other toys were books and clothes I think!

PrincessRomy · 08/10/2013 02:59

I got dd a box set of all the Beatrix potter books. No use at the time, but something she can keep for ever knowing it was her first Christmas present. She's two now and just beginning to enjoy looking at the books with us. I think we'll get years of value out of them.

SupermansBigRedBottleOfSpirits · 08/10/2013 03:03

Same as coola, ds was 7 weeks at his first Christmas, we bought light and music toys and tummy time toys too. Dd2 will be around 4 months by Christmas we have bought a jumperoo and a few bits we didn't buy for ds at that age so don't have yet.

Wishfulmakeupping · 08/10/2013 03:05

Things you will need-
A walker/jumperoo type thing
Lamaze toys are great for newborn and as they get older
Lots of lovely keepsakes/personalised toys on 'not on the high street'

AveryJessup · 08/10/2013 03:14

A baby gym / play mat, clothes and a little toy horse that neighed and galloped. He has never liked that horse though! I thought it was the cutest thing in the world but he just looked at it skeptically that first Christmas and even now he ignores it.

Random cheap zoo souvenir ( a panda puppet)? He loves that! Even now at 2...

Barbeasty · 08/10/2013 08:31

A voucher, so you can buy stuff in 6 months, and can justify it being fun stuff?

The book people have a box set of the complete Beatrix Potter for £30 (rrp £140), and lots of other nice packs of books.

DD was 6 months on her first Christmas, so we got plates & cutlery etc for her. Something like that which you'll need, but could get slightly nicer versions than if they weren't Christmas presents?

FarOverTheRainbow · 08/10/2013 08:33

Get toys that will suit her as she gets older, myDD was 9 weeks and got a high chair too which she couldn't use but ment we didn't have to buy one when she did

MortifiedAdams · 08/10/2013 08:35

A rolling crawling toy like this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0002VE5DK or this www.lamazetoys.co.uk/lamaze-roll--crawl-ball-toy-126-p.asp

PoppyAmex · 08/10/2013 08:43

DD is now 18 months, but for her first Christmas I got her a personalised ceramic Christmas bauble and will do the same for her brother (who will be 1 month old).

I'll get them each a new bauble every year (they can choose their own when they're older and get their own tree in the nursery) and eventually they'll take their collection when they leave home.

LittleBearPad · 08/10/2013 08:48

A whoozit or similar type toy.

Sammie101 · 08/10/2013 08:51

PrincessRomy, that's what I'm getting my DD for her first Christmas :D

Wishfulmakeupping · 08/10/2013 09:12

poppy love that idea

alittlebitcountry · 08/10/2013 10:07

I started what I hope will to be traditional gifts every year:
New sleepsuit/pyjamas
Classic book
Toy
Something cuddly/soft (could be a blanket or other useful thing not just toys)
DD was 9 months, DS will be 5 months this time.

MammaGnomes · 08/10/2013 10:25

Thank you, some great ideas.

I want to start off some traditions too. One of many exciting things about starting a new family is making Christmas as magical as you like! V excited

My DD was 3 months last Christmas. I got her

A jumperoo (which was actually DS's- I just brought it down from the attic)
Fisher price my first doll (this is still her favourite)
Lamaze musical inchworm
Playmat and plastic baby gym (the ones they lie under and kick/hit)

NewBlueShoesToo · 08/10/2013 16:52

An egg cup. They all have different ones from their first Christmas.
In the stocking I put baby bath stuff, bath toys, wet wipes!, everyone gets hats and gloves and toothbrushes, books.

MamaBear17 · 08/10/2013 18:20

Get her a jumperoo. DD was 5months on her first Christmas and she loved her jumperoo.
