Have got FIL some more cups for his tea service from eBay. I thought it might be nice to put something different in each one. He only drinks leaf tea and occassionally coffee. The cups are qiite small. I have 12 to fill. Must be non-toxic.

So far have thought of tea, coffee bags, a tea leaf container thing (though he usually uses a pot), a decoration from each of 3 children, homemade sugar cubes, choc truffles. .. any more ideas?

Chocloate coins? Ferraro rochiere? (Sp) lottery ticket/ scratch cards?
Would he ever have hot chocolate? You could get fancy stuff, and maybe mini marshmallows etc to pop on top?

Allalonenow · 02/10/2013 09:54

Nuts, amoretti biscuits, hot chocolate, pink peppercorns, spiced salt, cloves and cinnamon sticks, paper clips.

Allalonenow · 02/10/2013 09:55

Jelly beans!

Yes he likes biscuits and mince pies. I have seen more teaspoons in the same cutlery set we got last year. He might like that. 4 more ideas?

He won't touch hot chocolate but I could maybe get one of those mulled wine spice bags - I wonder if you could make individual mulled wine in microwave. He doesn't cook anymore, he's nearly 90.

it sounds lovely, but why does he need 15?

3birthdaybunnies · 02/10/2013 10:05

Dh says he doesn't like mulled wine.

He keeps breaking them - so ordered a couple of sets from eBay. The first lot were 6 cups & saucers, then saw a 'bargain' of 6 cups and saucers plus 3 spare cups (was only £6 incl postage). I did suggest keeping some for next Christmas (jan birthday) but dh convinced that each one could be his last.

A pound so he could buy something from the poundshop? Meant as a silly gift - would he see the silly side?
Cup cozy - like a teacozy but for a cup?

Lovely idea for gifts so far.

Bath salts? Or some manly smellies from the Boots travel section?

FairyJen · 02/10/2013 10:23

Would he like miniature whiskey or brandy?

3birthdaybunnies · 02/10/2013 10:28

Cup cozy might work, he doesn't really go out much anymore (unless we take him out for coffee etc) so probably wouldn't want to go shopping. He is a bit fussy about smells and probably wouldn't use the cup if it had had toiletries etc. It's a good idea but he probably wouldn't go for it. I was wondering whether I could get the dc to ask him what his favourite sweets were as a child as there is a traditional sweet shop near here. Though he will probably say he didn't have any being wartime. He's not the easiest to buy for. Dh has given up buying dvds as they will sit in their plastic even when his favourite actors etc.

A mini wine bottle might work if it was nice enough, maybe mini cava or something.
