Anyone seen any cheap Christmas lights?

Looking for cheap, short (10/20) Christmas lights - white, not flashing led (so they don't get hot) and ideally either solar or battery. Ideally from a shop. Making a Christmas village well the specific homework is a medieval village but if we're going to that effort we might as well bung some lights in and make use of it, they didn't specify season. Any tips also greatfully recieved!-

You can get short length battery powered lights from Wilkinsons, and John Lewis, but not until mid to end October. The JL ones are about a fiver, the Wilco ones much less. I think Tesco might have some eventually too.

That sounds ideal, but the time frame might not work. I was hoping to involve dd in getting them too but I may need to order them in. We need to get going on making it in the next week or so and I need the lights so we can plan where they need to go through the base. And I realise that it is her homework, but she is only 6 and realistically she isn't likely to make a medieval village entirely unaided! I'm just making it more likely to emerge from the recycling loft again.

That sounds incredibly over ambitious for a 6yo to do. Given that medieval lighting was flame based, I'm not sure how the lights would fit in. If you could get hold of those battery powered tea lights, you might be able to rig up a cooking fire type thing with a pot over it or a spit with a chunk of fake animal roasting.

The lighting is my idea so that it can be used for Christmas tablepiece too. I was just thinking of having it as lighting within buildings - but the spitroast is a great idea. It is massively over ambitious for a 6yr old, guess when the teacher has her own children she might realise.

No sadly not. I've given in and ordered on ebay. Got some warm white so hopefully not too harsh.

Primark do battery operated fairy lights ,they were on the counter at the one I was in the other day and were £1.50 ,not sure how many lights it was.
