Best Wii games for 6 and 7 year olds

Thinking of getting the kids a wii between them for Christmas this year. My DH and I are complete gaming virgins so have no idea what games would be suitable/enjoyable for this age group. Suggestions would be much appreciated. x

Are they boys or girls?

Makes a big difference for the games imo, our boys are very into the lego games - Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, Batman etc.

They don't bother with the activity games, they love Mario cart, but not the Mario and sonic at the Olympic games etc.

(I like the Zumba and Samba Amigo ones!)

We just got given a wii by their very generous older cousin, but when they were 5 and 7 we got them a playstation 2 with a pile of games, in a bundle from ebay for about £30. At that age I would not go for brand new items like wii that will be out of date soon. They had no idea it was not new.

Mine are 7 & 5 and love lego batman and lego pirates of the Caribbean. Although they really wanted skylanders (and had played it elsewhere) they have not played on it very much since we got it, maybe only once every couple of weeks. The Mario ones that came with the wii - hardly touched.

My 6yo adores Wii Party, Wii Sports Resort and Mario Kart :) (as do the rest of us in fact)

I have a ds (nearly 6) and a dd(7). On amazon they have a console package for £129 which includes wii sport and party. I just wasn't sure if they would be suitable for this age group. Dh and I have no interest in games so doubt that we would play them either. Ds has mentioned skylanders as some friends at school have them but the recommended age on Amazon for skylanders game is 7 so wasn't sure if he would like it/be able to play it. What do girls of this age normally like?

My boys are almost 5 and almost 7 and have played wii party quite a lot - but sport less often.

They love Lego Star Wars atm, and Mario and Sonic at the Olympics is a past favourite, as is Mario Cart, Super Mario Bros, Sports Resort and a random one called Rayman Origins which they love!

Mine have the games mentioned above and this year they're getting skylanders. They would play on it every day if they could (and to be honest they do most days).
Is go on eBay and buy a few games being sold in a bundle/bulk pack. Try to get at least one multi player active game like the carnival/sport one so the whole family can play on Christmas Day.

Lie everyone has mention, the lego games are a if hit. Skylanders is also a good one

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/09/2013 09:48

My DD(7) loves Mario and Sonic at the Olympics and the Just Dance ones The Sport and Party ones get used occasionally.

I would say of the Dance ones - the Dance Junior is easier to follow, but some of the songs are babyish (nursery rhymes etc), the Just Dance ones are harder and more grownup music, have a look at the track listings before buying any of them. There's an Abba dance one as well. Also think there might be a Disney one. And a Michael Jackson one.

My ds (6.8) loves Skylanders, lego batman, lego Star Wars, lego Harry Potter, and Donkey Kong.

My boys (4 and 8) like the Lego games, Mario Kart, MotoHeroz (think this is only downloadable, but it's really fun), Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus. Friends of ours have girls who also like the Lego games, and also Mario Party and Monopoly style games (both have lots of mini games).

I've considered Skylanders, but I think that buying all the characters so they can finish the game could get really expensive.

StupidFlanders · 27/09/2013 12:19

You don't need to get all the charactersfor skylanders. We bought the starter pack and about 10 characters in packs on sale. That's it (dcs share).
Now we're looking at the new game like it with characters; infinity.
I like that we can keep adding to them each birthday and christmas.
